Sig Sauer screwed me over big time in a warranty issue...

Wow, I won't be buying a Sig...

but here's my story with Ruger.

I was shooting my SP101 snubnose with some super hot Double Tap Ammo, 1605fps, 710ft/lb. Along with assorted other hi-power loads.

Now let me remind you Ruger has no implied warranty.

I cracked the forcing cone/barrel, so I just sent it in, didn't even have to call. The service info said to remove all items you might want, so I sent the gun in a crappy old hard case I didn't want anymore. I received a notice a week after I shipped it that confirmed Ruger's receipt of my gun. Then a few days later the UPS man comes to my door with a package from Ruger....in it is my crappy case they sent back for free. LOL.

About the same time, a CS rep from Ruger calls to tell me my gun is being fixed and it will be back in my hands less than a month from when I shipped it out. No charge.

While I haven't gotten my gun back yet, I am extremely pleased with their CS. I was already thinking about buying an SR9c but now I will for sure.

This was exactly what I was feeling when I heard Sig was going to ship me a new pistol (only I wasn't told to take parts off). I was happy as a clam until I got the new gun and found out it was the same as what I sent in. Imagine if your SP101 came back with the cheapest sights possible, a MIM trigger, plastic parts where there used to be steel, cheaper grips, etc.

Note: I have nothing but good luck with Ruger and I hope (expect) them to treat you right.

i thought all SIGs had the hollow trigger now, and had for quite a while, while my P220 has the solid (made ~ '90 or so) my '225 and '228 both have the hollow and they are both from the mid-'90s, i guess it depends on the model?

always remove custom grips prior to sending any pistol in to the maker for service, and any other custom stuff.

while i agree with ya and would prefer the solid trigger, steel rod, etc the others should work fine FWIW,

SIG should be able to tell about the nite sites and if they were not factory installed they arent gonna replace them and arent obligated to,

still, i understand how ya feel, dont know what to tell ya though,

I guess my biggest problem is none of this was disclosed to me before I sent the gun in. I was told to send it in for inspection (never told to remove anything), then they said they were going to replace it.

The thing that makes me really angry is that they most likely sold my original Sig as a refurb, which means they made money off my night sights and grips while they sent me the most basic model you can buy.

Sig is a huge company and i seriously doubt they capitalized on yur parts...i would guess that if they did refurb yur gun that the parts you are talking about probably went in a big can they throw junk in.

Why did you not tell them yur concerns when they said they would replace the pistol ?

I own several sigs and my advice to you is to make peace with yurself because you own one of the best combat guns that money can buy (IMO).

NO! They sell refurb guns with the components on it (all the preowned Sigs I've seen have preowned parts), why would they take night sights off only to put them in a bin and sell the gun at a cheaper price after spending more money to put on standard sights ?

I did ask them to send back the grips, but of course I expected them to see the factory installed night sights and send me a Sig with night sights. Are you suggesting that I should have made a list of what they should have sent back to me? Should I include a barrel, slide, frame, magazine release button, etc.? If you sent in an S90V Spyderco Manix 2 for warranty repair would you make a note that they should send you back an S90V Spyderco Manix 2 or would you assume that because they made it, they know what it is? Then if they sent you a 154-CM standard Manix 2 would you be disappointed?

Possibly true, but my first one wore out after 300 shots, and now I am stuck with a lesser gun than I originally paid more for (night sights plus grips). If I originally bought standard sights and no grips, I would saved about $150. Now if I want to upgrade back to the point I started at, it will cost me another $150!

Your gun did NOT where out after 300 shots...all i see by yur pics is a scratch....your getting heartburn over nothing and this thread with a handful of posters will do nothing to hurt sig...try the "Sig" forum. :)

I own 2 Sigs, a P229 and a P225. have owned them both for years and have put thousands of rounds through each. I have never ever ever had a single problem with either gun.
I'm sorry for your troubles, but Sig Sauer makes quality firearms and should not be discounted by the woes of one customer. I've also never had a problem contacting custy service by phone. just last week I ordered new mags for my P225 over the phone with almost no wait time.

for all the rest of you in this thread that can't wait to jump on a hate bandwagon,,, do your homework, instead of just swearing by what one person writes in one thread on a website where almost anyone can write almost anything.

THINK!

Obviously, the company is a thriving business, so they must satisfy most customers. But real character is revealed when problems arise, and this problem does not seem to have been solved to the customer's satisfaction.

I can appreciate your loyalty to a company whose products you value. You should also appreciate our loyalty to the original poster, whom some of us know well enough to trust.

there are two sides to every story.

I have only heard one.

until I hear the other, I will put my stock in my belief and experience.

with all due respect, I merely stated my opinion of what I think is a fine firearms maker.

just because I have never had a problem does not mean my opinion is not valid.

I've had a Sig 229 for 11 years, with over a thousand round, never a problem. Sigs are great handguns.

OK, guys, you win. Sigs are perfect. Nothing ever goes wrong with them. And if it did, they would fix it immediately.

:p

Anything that is mechanical can and will fail...with respect to the OP..IMO, i feel that if Sig blew him off it must have been for a reason...I have dealt with them and they were very professional...as i mentioned above they are very well known for one of the best combat hanguns out there.

No gun is perfect !!....No company is perfect !!

It's to bad the OP had a bad experiance... I did not just jump on the Sig bandwagon....i have been pro Colt 1911 for many years....i have been into Sigs for over 3 years now and they have proven to me to be a good tool.

That scratch was caused by a burr on the slide. It DID wear out after 300 shots due to the fact that the slide WORE through the anodizing on the frame. When I sent it to Sig, THEY determined it was too badly worn to be used and replaced it.

If you have two Sigs and have never had a problem with either, then you cannot comment on Sig's Customer Service in relation to fixing problems. Your only Sig Customer Service is buying stuff from them and I don't think it takes a genius to figure out they may have a different attitude between somebody buying something and somebody activating a warranty claim on a $600 handgun.

for all the rest of you in this thread that can't wait to jump on a hate bandwagon,,, do your homework, instead of just swearing by what one person writes in one thread on a website where almost anyone can write almost anything.

Two ways you can "do your homework". You can either break a gun and go through this headache yourself or you can research what other people have gone through. This thread fits perfectly into the second category because of my experience with the first category. It's understandable that you defend Sig and insinuate that I am a liar just because you own the brand and have not had any PERSONAL bad experience with them. It's understandable because many studies have shown that people defend their opinion without allowing themselves to change it when new data is introduced that contradicts their own opinion. Ask yourself two questions:

-What benefit do I have to falsely accuse Sig of treating me this way?
-What benefit do you get by telling people not to believe me because I am just a person on some website on the internet? Are you not in fact making Sig a worse company by blindly defending without a clue as to whether or not they are treating customers this way?

I'm not asking anybody to blindly believe me. I am however posting my experience so that others may make a complete and informed decision when they purchase their own handguns. When you spend this much on a handgun, some of that money pays for warranty guarantees. If Sig does not follow through on that warranty I believe it makes their products less valuable. Please, do more research and form your own opinions.

UPDATE

I wrote a letter to Sig earlier this week about my woes and asked them to make it right. I got a call while at the grocery store from the head of CS at Sig! He asked me to send in my gun and said he wanted to make this right. He will install front and rear night sights for me, shipping covered both ways.

He said my case must have slipped through the cracks and apologized many times for the headache. To get my gun most of the way back to original has taken me several months, many emails, phone calls, and a letter. This has of course been a pain, but it looks like they want to make it better. I'll let you know how everything turns out when I get the gun back.

I am happy to hear this is being resolved.

I sincerely hope that this ends with you being a satisfied Sig Sauer customer.

Best wishes,

Bryan

WOW, sounds like a stand up company after all :) makes me wonder if the energy wasted on this thread could have been used more productively in the first place....glad it turned out good for you and i can't wait till you get your gun back so we can read your public apology to Sig. :)

I hate to hear this. I have a sig p220 and have had zero problems. Now i hope to never have any dealings with their cs reps. I sure hope this isn't going to be their standard M.O.
