silicon carbide stones

Is that a SiC/india combo? Hows the finish from the fine side?

I think so, although it says it's an India combo. The fine side is pretty smooth, but no specs are given. The model number is a 1B8, you can see on the side of the box.

Yeah, yeah :p

Personal taste is a big part of it but finding a stone that does everything well is what lead me to diamonds to begin with. Other stones might polish better at the same grits and work good with this steel or that steel but diamonds work good with all steels. I think this thread was just a laps in my judgment and has made me realize I have already found what I was looking for.

Hey db, 1000 grit and less? my next thread might change your mind :D
Oh no you don't..:).. The last thing I need is to start thinking about getting some more hones. :) I'll admit I haven't used any of the finer grit diamonds and have been tempted a time or two to get them.

Sodak, Thats a, IB 8 . Thats a India on both sides . As, I have that stone its coarse and fine, brown and reddish . DM

I've bought the same one you show in the photos as gifts for friends . Just now looking at mine the coarse is more grey and I've seen a more brown . Coarse is 150 grit and fine is 320 . Depending on its age . The one you show is newer as it was still being sold in late 2008 and I've seen that box offered this year . The coding translates "India Benchstone 8" for IB 8 . DM

You're right, IB8 it is! Thanks for the clarification, this is a great thread! :)

Tru-Grit has the Norton IC-11's...They work great with simple green as the lubricate....
