Hi All Wilderness Friends,

I am making this thread because I havent seen anybody ever mention Silky Saws in these forums before. I am an Arborist and use hand saws daily. I can tell you from experience that if you have not cut with a Silky you are missing out. They are hands down the finest hand saws made today. They cut through green and dry wood like butter. They are made extremely well and there are close to a 100 different design to choose from depending on your needs.

I rarely ever cut with a chainsaw anymore unless the branch is over 10" in size. These saws cut so effortlessly and stay RAZOR sharp. I feel that there folding saws should be a part of everyones pack. I can not tell you how many times that they have saved me or someone else. I hope that some of you will heed my words of advice and pick up a Silky, cut something and report back. I can guarantee that after one outing with them either in the yard or the bush and you will always have one with you. I am warning you right now though that they are just as addicting as knives. For everyone here I would recommend the Silky Pocketboy as a starter. You can choose from 2 different lengths and I believe 3 different teeth sizes depending on what you are cutting. Here are links to their store and site.

For those that want a large folder check out the Big Boy.

For those that want the Ultimate Fixed Blade Saws for the big stuff I recommend the Zorin, Ibuki, and Sugoi.

Saw away,
NorCal

thanks for this review...i have seen these before but apart from the handles they didn't look that much better than any other brand.

do they really cut that much better?

Wow! NorCal, I was meaning to post about my new favorite wilderness toy, the Silky Saw!!!

Just a couple weeks ago, I was in upstate NY and one of my companions had the 330 - he's an arborist too and swore by them. I couldn't believe how well the saw cut - a pull stroke, and you don't have to apply pressure - the shape of the blade does the work and brings it through.

Very cool. I took some bad pictures of his saw. This blows away any saw I've used, has a sheath and belt attachment, and is light as a feather. He said the blade stays razor sharp for at least 6 months of constant all-day use. So, if you're not an arborist and buy one, the blade will stay sharp for years.

Yup. Thats the Zubat. Probably the best all around saw.

Sasha,

The friend who introduced me to it said they sell a sharpener. I've used many types of saws, and NorCal isn't kidding. I was really amazed and had an ear-to-ear grin using this. Many times, I could do a single pull on 1-2" saplings and lop them off with that one cut. They are fast, and you use almost no energy compared to most saws.

sure sound better then an axe. There is a place where many gardners buy supplies. Im going to check up if they sell them there.

Sounds interesting.

I was actually looking at the pocketboy pictured above. I've got a ton of firewood I need to section down better...

What size firewood are you sectioning? I would recommend something larger than a pocketboy for firewood. Either a Big Boy or Zorin.

I've mentioned Silky on a couple occasions on the forums. I carry a Pocketboy in my pack and Gomboys/Woodboys are always in my tool bags. The best damn folding saws hands down. I use them outdoors and I use them daily as a carpenter.

Silky saws are dandy and all, some of the best out there IMO, but the OP is awfully spam-like. Just seems kinda’ suspicious. Reads like an ad. Just my $0.02.

I wondered, too, waba, but he seems to have posted in here about all sorts of stuff, not jus Silky. NorCal, are you associated with the Silky site or sellers in any way?

I like the looks of the super accel 210 large teeth. May have to pick one of those up.

I just broke my Home Depot $9.00 special..made in Korea..Razorback?? I will have to get it and post a pic...I hadn't used it 5 minutes before it Broke..right at the joint. The Blade snapped when it bound on some wet wood. I guess I have to check one of these out. Gene
