Silky Saws...Nothing else compares...Ultimate Hand Saws

I've read the single test report and I'm not sure I would reach the same conclusion if I ran a test. That said, I'll probably get the Kershaw saw just for fun and comparison.

One thing they didn't test for in that one report is longevity. The Zubat and Super Accel's teeth are impulse hardened to Rockwell 67, according to what I've read. People say they retain their sharpness for an extremely long time. That was a problem with my Pocket Chainsaw. Cut well when new but now it's dull and slow. I can sharpen it but I'm sure it will be a tedious and time consuming task.

Heck, the Gerber saws and a bunch of others aren't bad either.

Done. I went ahead and ordered one.

I ordered 2 pocketboys. :o

The 130 arrived yesterday, and it's much beefier than I thought. It's plenty big for backpacking chores. I also bought a 170 to ride in my truck bag, I'm excited to get out and use these two.

I got mine last week from Gemplers. I got the 130 and have limbed several trees. Solid lock-up and fast cutting. Not as compact as I expected but plenty handy for the rucksack.

I'm glad you guys like you're Silkies. I'm trying out a new voice recognition software. So, what you are seeing is being spoken, not typed. I'm such a tech geek. I'm using Dragon NaturallySpeaking voice recognition software, and it rocks! No more typing! I can speak way faster than I can type... :)

Okay, time for bed. Still in Virginia, but back in Connecticut this weekend.

What's that? I can't hear you.:D

or

Brian sure does have Silky voice activated typing.:D

(Ya , I know. But I'm exhausted and very sick so most anything is funny to me right now.)

First he says the Bacho is the best, then says that later he noticed that the Silky is much better in hardwoods.

Interesting. I need to get my saw. I hope it comes today.

One of the reasons I ordered the Super Accel 210 is the comment in the review about the Oyakata "stacking" in soft wood. The Oyakata is 10 teeth per 30mm while the Super Accel is only 8 per 30mm. I expect the larger teeth clear a bit more easily and stack less.

In any event, I'm going to reserve judgment on any comparison until I get the Kershaw/Bahco saw and try them side-by-side for myself. If the K/B performs as well as the review suggested, it would be nice for backpacking because of the very low weight.

Ive tried every handsaw known to man and Silky wins hands down. Bahco makes some alright products but they arent as high quality as Silky. Just like how there hand pruners arent as high quality as ARS or Felco. The Silky Saws will stay sharper longer than anything else. I have not sharpened any of my Silkys ever. Through 1000s of cuts they are still sharper than hell. Ill have to take a pic of my Silky collection. It is quite massive.

Mine came in today! Woo hoo. Boy, the quality of the build on this thing is fantastic. You guys were right. Thanks for recommending it!! Its in my man bag now. (Too cold and rainy for a test... is winter ever gonna end?)

My weather is your weather (Greenville S.C.). Yesterday, shorts and a tee shirt. Today, Filson wool.

I'm from SoFla and this is worse than Jan when it was just cold and dry. At least I knew how to dress. LOL

I don't need to test Silkys or Felcos. Used them for many years in Fla. Just need to find the right packing box, still have them.

Finest Kind.

i just received the Skattboy 210 fine teeth. Cut up some rattan with minimal effort and smooth finish. Great saws!

Which model would be an adequate replacement for a mid-large size bow saw?

(Already going to order a pocketboy, figured I might as well get a big one too:D)

I went with the 330mm (13") Zubat because it's one of the largest Silkys with the impulse hardened Rockwell 67 teeth. Some of the larger saws aren't as hard (but the trade-off is that you can sharpen them with a file rather than a diamond sharpener). I'm lazy with saw sharpening and figured I'd probably prefer to replace the blade rather than sharpen. The Zubat should stay sharp for a really long time anyway.
