Silver Needle's GSO 5's

I've not tried it, and I'm sure it's fine, but I'd put my money towards a Gränsfors axe. It's not even twice the price ($65 here), hand made, and legendary. :)

They're nice for sure. I'm a big fan of American-made and love my Council Tool Velvicut Hudson Bay axe. Perfect for backpacking and camping IMO. Eventually I'll grab a GB Scandinavian Forest Axe just to have it.

Check out Council Tool's boy's axe. I have the GB Small Forest and it has been retired since I got the Forest Service (same as the Boy's Axe) from Omaha Knife earlier this year. 2.5# head, 28" haft, USA made, hand-picked, and under $100.

The Hudson Bay is more compact for backpacking and camping which is what attracted me to it in the first place

But the boy's axe hits like a ton of bricks. :)

Got one for me, one for my son, and one for my dad.

The axes decent? Worth a shot on a trip or two?

IMO, they're probably fine for light chopping and they'd probably do pretty well as an ulu type blade. They're basically a wide knife on a thick stick though, so splitting would be limited to horizontal splitting on smaller stuff (like you'd use a hawk) unless you use wedges and there's no poll to speak of.

If one wants a synthetic handled axe in that size range, a Fiskars X7/14" (Gerber Sport Axe II/Freescape) will trounce the Mora at everything, other than as a knife, for half the price.

I'm really sorry it's been a few days since I posted pics of my Red Devil (nickname credit to Redwood :D)

So yeah, I'd call this balance absolutely perfect.
