Single-Spring Supporters

Charles, that is one of the best looking clip blades I've ever seen, from the length of clip, to the swedge, placement and size of the nail nick, amount of belly, that oh-so-pointy point, just everything.

I really like the slim concept of the single spring :)

Case/Bose Norfolk

Too bad I lost this one in the sands - stupid me

Here is an elegant 2 blade single spring pen knife marked VULCAN /Ellin & Co. / Sheffield c. 1850. 3 3/8" long, milled brass liners and gold washed interior and exterior (once).

Interesting pen knife with unusual shape kind of a swell center on top only. Marked Goodbebere /Cain & Co or Gain & Co. Only reference I have found is in my "London Knife Book" Ron Flook is for a George Thomas Goodbebere (1836)

Here's a new arrival. Queen/Schatt No.21 Muskrat in Blackbone, also available in Stag. 3.25" Impressive snap, don't let people tell you that single-spring/2 blade knives 'have' to have puny snap. Not so. No rubbing here either which is also an enviable quality, so too the low joints. Less good was the total bluntness and a appreciable gap between the scale and liner. However, a knife with a lot to like about it I feel. Thanks, Will

Revival Time. This just flew in from the Exchange, many thanks to Billy. A nicely used White Owl that has most impressive W&T. Picture's poor but late at night here. Now I need to find a Dead Skunk....

here are a few: Camillus, Camillus, "Smith and Wesson"(Camillus?), very flat KaBar, Taylor's Eye Witness.

That's a great option Mark, I'm very keen on my 66 Slims in Sawn Bone and Grey Pearl acrylic as shown earlier.

Thanks, Will

Here is my Buck 302 Solitaire. I just recently purchased it. Very slim in hand and in the pocket.
It's about 3.75 in. closed. I like how it's so slim yet capable too. For what it's worth, it cost $19.95 delivered.
Made in the USA and Buck's 420 steel works fine for me. Great company with values I relate to. Plus the "forever" warranty.

Slim is in for me. I will always opt for a single spring knife - modern or traditional.

Occasionally a nice, thin Whittler will be OK but I consider that sort of 1-1/2 springs :)

Congrats Will!!

Many thanks Trand! I'm extremely pleased with it, there's a better daylight pic of it on the New Additions thread.

Fine selection there Dallas  Particularly that Courthouse Whittler, don't have one but would like one.

Regards, Will

Fine bone on that Rem, they really put out some beautiful knives!

This arrived today, Northfield Workhorse in Blackwood, shown here with a single blade 85 Ivory Bone. The quality of construction and finish is inspiring, firm pull but no nail busta, great W&T, absolutely no hint of gap nor blade-rub (not always the case with single-spring 2 blades) nor play. If I had to criticize it would be the sunken pins that GEC seem to be partial to. Other people don't mind this, I'd say it is preferable flush or domed pins. But anyway they're not sink-holes:D, I've been after one of these for ages and now it's arrived I'm more than delighted. The mirror polish is near crocus level, excellent to have a coping blade as secondary, never had a Blackwood knife before and it is certainly different from Ebony, it has much finer grain that it looks like bone, wonderful gear.

Another recent recruit: Conductor in stainless from the Cyclops Works. Antique Yellow Bone. The bone is very interesting, a sort of barley-sugar or rope Winterbottom. I'd like to se it on other patterns too.

Thanks, Will.

It was, but with a broken spring. So, a little time in the workshop, and now it's a nice little slim single blade 6318!
