Hope he doesn't fart and vibrate himself right off the edge! That is a heck of a descent angle! Looks like the type of place I'd love to go have a picnic lunch though. I can just imagine how beautiful his view is right about then.

He met some girl there about his second or third night there. Drove 4 hours to see her, and she took him to this spot. He loved it.

Got my drill press earlier. Came around 6:30pm, the latest i have seen a UPS guy here.. Maybe ever.

Simple to get put together which is a good thing because the instruction were crap and overly complicated without needing to be.

Seems to work great, and is smaller/shorter than i thought, which is a good thing IMO

Hope the grinder is just as easy to set up tomorrow.

Im guessing to drill carbon steel it should be on the lowest RPM??

Sweet picture Dubs... But i would NOT of been sitting on that rock...

I would of stayed several feet to the right of the trees unless i had one hell of a harness tied off.

Im not deathly afraid of heights, but im not thrilled about them either.

I seen a bunch of pictures of different people camping on the side of a rock wall hanging from ropes...Yea.. Unless my choices were that or DIE, it would never happen LOL

For what it's worth, here's a link to a pdf from the Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory that gives "Speed X for Material Type Y using Bit Type Z". Generally pretty useful, although, as with any opinion, some people will have a difference of opinion on its accuracy/correctness.

My differences of opinion with it are that I use a lower speed on the smaller (sub-3/16") bits and I use a cooling oil on small bits as well.

I hear ya man. I'm not afraid of heights, as in planes are no problem, etc, but I can't get close to the edge like that either. I get vertigo, haha. My son is getting into rock climbing, which is what he was also going there for. Here he is climbing. This was taken in southern Illinois:

And here he is bouldering just a few days ago:

He gets extra points for the Organic Crash Pad.

I grew up fishing at FERMIlab, and then my mom got attacked by a goose there and that sucked. Then my sister got invited (because she was a goody-two-shoes and excelled at science) to one of their science fairs, and that was the MOST AWESOMEST THING EVER!!!!!!! It was like Mythbusters meets Blue Man Group meets... Bern.

I'd say, go the fastest possible, and just spray some WD-40 in there when burning it through.

Murph told me tonight in the shop that your respirator should be there today or tomorrow. So, if it didn't come today, guess you should expect it then.

Dubz, cool pics of the boy. Good to hear he's enjoying himself and met someone after his breakup a while back.

Hmmm..... "Speed X for Material Type Y using Bit Type Z"

Yea... Im scared to hit the link in fear it may be some complicated algebra equation LOL

Different topic. As soon as i started looking into respirators i email 3M, told them exactly what i planned to be doing and asked them what the cheapest filter i could use and still protect myself from the steel and wood dusts.. They replied earlier today and this is what they said

Hi Richard,

Thank you for contacting 3M regarding respiratory protection. I suggest considering our 8515 disposable respirator for your needs, which will be appropriate for concentrations up to ten times the Permissible Exposure Limit (PEL) or IDLH, whichever is lower, when the respirator is qualitatively fit tested.

8515:

I dont know..... Something about that one doesnt make me feel like its good enough though. Prolly because it looks like a hospital mask damn near.

Thanks man. He's met several girls, and to his credit he's not settling for just anybody. He really seems to like this one.

Awesome man!! You guys are some great people!!

Funny i was typing about them as you posted that LOL

WW, by NO means DO NOT drill high carbon steel at high speeds. The only thing you will do is ruin your drill bits and work harden the steel.

 I already set it at the lowest RPM!! Im going to be going slow with it as well, id rather take longer and not waste money by breaking bits or ruining the steel.

I would really hope he doesn't take my advice on anything besides food!

LOL... I really did laugh out loud!! :D
