this is it (i have a cold steel kukri and condor parang coming next week)...i sold a lot of beckers and esee in the last few months. i'm not a collector so once i find a better knife for the task, i get rid of the old one. i'm a minimalist so actually i'd like to thin this down even more.

I'm at 4 counting the yet to arrive burger lext. My high was 9. But I'm not much of a collector. My tastes evolved so I got rid of what I wasn't using to fund new, more expensive purchases

Agree, after 40 yrs of searching for the perfect knife I am almost there!
Voted north of 500..........

About 20-30 & I'm looking to thin them down to about a dozen.I couldn't even imagine having 1000+ knives.

Here's what I got +/- a couple.

So, far I'm the only one who has voted 1,000+.

My collection consists of around 1,650 - 1,700 knives. About 985 of them are productions and the rest are custom. I would try to post pics but it would be way too much hassle to take all of them out of the box and set them up for pics. Sorry guys.

No, I voted for 1,000+ too. But it was a sham vote. :o

I voted 1000+ because that's probably what it would be if I had every knife I wanted - which is every one I see here, at knife shops online and hell I'll take all of BUDK's inventory while I'm at it! :D Oh yeah and I'm 1/2 in the bag too!

Tons of knife-buying money is wasted on wealthy non-knife nuts imo! :p

Mutually exclusive? No. But I don't think you can compare someone with 100 Lovelesses with a guy who has 100 Sanrenmus.

As for me:

absolutely , but its limited by the size of your wallet :)

Yep. The saying around here is often, "Collect What You Like." But that saying should have a mate, "Collect What You Can Afford."

Not many regular folks can afford a complete collection of knives from Benchmade or William Henry or Schatt & Morgan..., just examples. But practically anyone can afford to pick up a SAK monthly, building a serious collection over time.

I have well over a hundred knives but many are the simple inexpensive type that I wouldn't buy today. I am working on a way to downsize the collection, but find I am still too attached to many of them. :D
I'd prefer to own about 30 or so (folders and fixed), with the same monetary value, and slowly build on that, like two or three new aquisitions a year, but higher-end than the good quality but mass produced ones that make up 80% of the current collection.

While there is the quality vs. quantity debate which applies to most of us with limited incomes, a few lucky folks can afford both, and I wish them well (plus they should feel free to invite me over some time to oogle their knives :D). I really don't want more than a few hundred knives, since even the ones I have right now don't get the attention they deserve. I feel guilty if a knife just sits there not being used for years. I know, I know. I obviously have some sort of psychological knife abandonment problem. :)

Mine sits right around 50 or so, but I need to qualify that: half my collection is cheap knock offs, or mall ninja stuff. This is a result of my teenage collecting days, and I enjoyed them at the time, so I don't really regret it. I am slowly getting rid of that stuff. I would say I have about 20 quality pieces.

Man those are awesome - what a boatload of hiogh end fixed blades! There's so many that it's hard to see them in detail. Are there a lot of Randalls in there?
