Skills Gathering, November 20 & 21st

If you'd like, I can give John an extra and have him send it with your next order

That would be great, Thanks.

Glad you made the comment about keeping the gear to a minimum, helped put it into perspective. I probably would have put too much, or more than was truly needed into one.

I actually just got back from dropping an envelope in the mail to John so he can send it along with your knife. Its meant to be easy to carry in a kit and should easily fit into even an already well packed mint tin. I've been playing around with some different fire starting methods and I will be giving your flints a go soon. Thanks again for those.

Hi Guys -

Yes - I think 6 is correct - and yes, I drink coffee!~

It will probably be brisk and we can have bannock and coffee, once I get my winning fire lit! :foot:

best regards -

Got some firekits made up for everybody. I found a nice supply of German army surplus butter tins with a rubber gasket and removable liner. They contain small amounts of several different tinders to try out. Shredded Cedar bark, fatwood, jelly lint and jute twine.

Yes on the coffee for me as well and I know Uncle Bill likes his coffee too.

Those kits look awesome JDS1!

Nice looking kits! Question, what is jelly lint? BTW - your work bench looks way too clean!

Dryer lint infused with petroleum jelly. It takes off like a rocket. I also added some extra fine steel wool to the kits. That also takes a spark nicely.

As far as the bench goes, I'm between projects. But I guess I do tend to keep it pretty orderly. :o

I thought you meant to say belly button lint. :D No sh*t your bench is orderly, that vise looks unused!

#1: Hey John, would it be alright for me to swing out your way early Friday morning to drop off those tinders for everyone to play with/take home?

#2 Sogetsu, how much rope would you need? I've got some that's currently just laying around. Let me know if you need, or would like it, I can drop that off too.

#3 You guys have a blast, I know you will. And, I'll have to catch up with all of you another time.

#4 I haven't taken the time to do up another batch of char cloth, but I may have to get on that within the next couple weeks. So, some of that may be up for passing out the next Skills Gathering.

Wow! Thanks in advance Zenful! Was real sorry to hear you couldn't make it but, we'll hope for the next time around. Some times stuff just doesn't work out I guess!

I will stop at the closest Starbucks on the way in and pick up the coffee!

Sure, just bring coffee! Let me know what time, The Boss is off that day, but I will still get up early.

Looks like I should make it. If I find some rope/paracord I'll try to teach some ropework.

Cool that you can make it. Do you want paracord or something larger? My Dad was VP of a rope company for many years and I have a lot of cordage that I've stockpiled.
