Skulls!?

Guilty. But I'm not going to stop. Knife nerds know that "lanyard" often means "fob". Reg'lar folks don't know what "fob" means (at least the ones I know don't). However! I admit it is my responsibility write for my target audience. And this forum is all about knife nerds. I'll try to remember to use proper terminology in the future, but no promises. :)

Isn't a fob what you start your car with? Key fob? First time I've heard a lanyard being called a fob. Never liked the word fob to begin with.

Blade Runner 7 you are the big winner! Every time I read the title of this thread I think "Misfits".

I was late to the party and discovered them thanks to Metallica. Walk Among Us is just the best. Thanks for making my day with that great video.:thumbup:

"Walk Among Us" is one of their best. So is "Legacy of Brutality".

I've always been a fan of the early/Danzig Misfits. They had another good album, I don't think it had a name, I remember it having yellow and black Fiend graphics on the cover. I wore out my Misfits cassettes years ago. Never got around to trying to find CD's.

And just for the fun of it, here's a Glenn Danzig scowl :grumpy: Grrrrrrrrrr.

:D

I love Danzig. Misfits are really good too, but never hooked my attention in the same way.

Yep, I started as a fan of Danzig's solo project (a friend was a fan, and I eventually became a convert). And that eventually led me into the Misfits. I never got into Samhain, Danzig's band between Misfits and his solo project.

Sorry mods, I know, off-topic. A million pardons. I just couldn't help it. :)

I'm a huge Danzig/Samhain fan. Danzig era Misfits are pretty awesome too.

Samhain isn't the band between Misfits and Danzig. Samhain IS Danzig. They just changed the band name under Rick Rubin's suggestion.

I used to have a giant Danzig skull on my truck rear window. Started sending my kids to catholic school and I didn't want to scare the other parents so I took it down. My avatar here is usually the Danzig skull but the Busse Bolo 13 cause needs me right now. :D

Back on topic. I think skulls are cool, but certainly agree that they have been over done. Lets all be men and start a new trend.

I save my dislikes for more significant things. Skulls are not really my taste. They just seem to scream cheap mall ninja.

That sounds like the truth, right there.

I don't understand why anyone puts a bead on a knife. The lanyard, I kinda get, although if I ever try to use one I end up taking it off, as it makes the whole implement less compact and tends to get caught in moving machinery at my job. Have we really gotten to the point of accessorizing knives as some kind of man jewelry? There are some aesthetic things done to knives that I enjoy, such as acid washing, stonewashing, custom scales, but everything is about making the knife reflect me. Not knocking the bead thing, but I don't understand how that adds the same kind of personal value to a knife without taking away some of the utility.

JFI, people have been accessorizing/decorating knives for thousands of years. It's hardly a new thing/trend/fad as I've seen mentioned on this topic.

I like lanyards and agree they aid in pulling the knife from a pocket. They are also good if you like to wave and provide a handy back-up to grip to avoid slip ups.

I have a bead on a few but not on most. I use leather and paracord for my lanyards. Usually just a simple Reeve coil. Except on my HEST 2.0 where I used bracelet copper chain. On fixed blades I might put a slip loop in the lanyard for around the thumb or wrist.

I don't always use a lanyard, but when I do, it has a skull on it.

I just like them, and this one has glow in the dark eyes to help me see it if I happen to drop it somewhere.

For this particular knife, a lanyard is absolutely essential for me to quickly remove it from the sheath.

Love the Mistfits but not a fan of skulls when it comes to knives.

Two things wrong with skulls. From a style standpoint they are cliched silly decorations. From a practical standpoint how do you convince some LEO or judge your skull laden stabber is "just a tool."

Skulls are just weird. In a world of so many choices they are a choice that is not positive. Choose positive images not images of death. I'm not nieve but I believe that the choices you make everyday make a big difference in your life. Just my humble opinion.

I like adding weight to the end of my fobs so the stiff cord doesn't stick out. Most of the heavier beads on ebay are skulls, hence multiple skull beads to keep my fob where I want it. Skulls are cooler to me than the other beads you can order that seem to be from women's craft sets.. Just ordered 30 more skulls last night, and some wearing a gas mask that kind of look Fallout-y.. I'm just glad beads aren't a one style fits all and I get to choose what I like rather than being limited by someone elses sense of style and whatnot..
