Skulls!?

Interesting read. I can see why you'd prefer not to see the topic brought up again.

Yeah because it's a ridiculous topic that's not worthy of a thread. Don't like it? Don't buy it. End.

The whole "I hate skulls" thing is a thought that quickly crosses your mind when you see one but then should just as quickly be forgotten.

I mean while we're getting a list of your likes and dislikes, how about you tell us the following;

Favorite color
Most disliked color
Favorite desert
Yuckiest food
Do you prefer hot or cold weather
Boxers or briefs
Cutest animal
Finally what bead do you prefer on your fob?

P.S. Welcome to bladeforums.

But apparently it's a worthy enough topic for you to post in this thread, twice.

If you don't like this topic, or this thread, no one is forcing you to read it, or post in it.

Don't like it? Don't read it. Don't like it? Don't post in it. End. See how simple that is.

You're not the owner of Bladeforums, so what makes you think you are in any position to tell any member here that their choice of topic is ridiculous or not worthy of a thread? Several members found this thread interestring enough to post in it, over 7 pages worth of posts. At least two mods have read this thread, and posted in it. The mods have the power to close a thread that they deem pointless, and yet they haven't closed it. So clearly your opinion is wrong and this topic is most definitely worthy of a thread.

Personally, I think Bladeforums can get along just fine without you telling another member that their topics are ridiculous or not worthy of a thread.

My favorite desert is the Gobi.

Yuckiest is crying over spilt milk.

A lanyard is necessary to operate a large knife.

P.s.
Your opinion is as valid as everyone else's.

........

It makes people feel tough.
That sounds like the truth, right there.

I don't understand why anyone puts a bead on a knife. The lanyard, I kinda get, although if I ever try to use one I end up taking it off, as it makes the whole implement less compact and tends to get caught in moving machinery at my job. Have we really gotten to the point of accessorizing knives as some kind of man jewelry? There are some aesthetic things done to knives that I enjoy, such as acid washing, stonewashing, custom scales, but everything is about making the knife reflect me. Not knocking the bead thing, but I don't understand how that adds the same kind of personal value to a knife without taking away some of the utility.

Yeah because it's a ridiculous topic that's not worthy of a thread.

That statement is demonstrably false. There are 75 messages in the thread you linked; this one has almost twice as many. If a topic isn't worthy of a thread it dies quickly, often with a single message.

Man, after posting that I would never have one I remembered that I did have one several years back:o
A couple of people asked me to pick them up a Starlingear Gaser Bead while at Blade back around 2008.
One of the fellow BF members said someone else had also scored one for him, and he didn't really need two, but would take it since I got it.
I told him I would just keep it and sell it here on BF, which I did.
I think I held on to it a year or two though.
They were made very well, and looked good. Just not my thing.

I guess its still considered a skull if it has a gas mask on...or is it ???
Maybe I didn't ever have one afterall :p

Don't like thread topic ? Don't open it. End.

How does a bead take away utility? And how does one aesthetic choice reflect the owner less than another?

Perhaps you missed the first message in this thread. It isn't about what to buy; I already have that figured out. I wanted to get other people's opinion on what makes them interesting to others. Fortunately, some people have been quite helpful, and I got some interesting answers. I have to admit that the signal-to-noise ratio is declining rapidly, though.

General knife discussion is cyclical.

Theres nothing wrong with asking why. Answer if you want or ignore it if you want.

Its similar to threads asking about the appeal of a company like Spyderco. Generally its someone that thinks they make ugly knives and want to know why theyre so popular. The responses can make a convert or at least enlighten and help them understand others and their choices.

Theres been some pretty good responses and discussion so far so id say its far from a worthless thread.

Itll die off in a week or two then pop up in 6-12 months. Looking forward to it.

I've never really been a big skull guy. Pretty sure I never had one on a knife, until.....I found some basic Emerson design pewter beads for a great price and bought a bunch. Now, a bunch of my knives have skull beads on the pocket pull. Go figure. Love 'em or hate 'em, but I'm just too cheap to go out shopping for anything to replace them. :) Until I run out, that's what I'm sporting. Good thing I don't give a damn what anyone else thinks of me. ;)
