Sleeping with knives

I put my EDC of the day on my headboard (shelf) and keep my H&K .45 on the bedside table, safety on/unlocked. No kids in the house and we have had instances of bears trying to get into the house but they were run off by my Rotties before they actually got it.

But in bed? No, thanks. :)

Pocket knife is on top of the dresser where I dump my wallet, keys, etc. Beside the bed? AR15 w/Surefire light next to the bed and a small LED light on nightstand. I'm in a rural area, so the nearest sheriff is probably 20 min away if I'm lucky. I'm on my own until then.

PS: two dogs are the alarm system :)

OP, do you sleep with your knives for self defense or separation anxiety? It's kind of hard to tell from your post.

at home: edc near bedpost next to the USAR issued pager
outdoors: strapped in waistband. no matter what.

No knives in bed here... but as soon as I get up and put on my pj's I clip one IWB!

Sleeping with a knife in bed with you is a bit strange, sleeping with a knife in hand is beyond strange. Besides that it could be dangerous, as who knows what they are doing when asleep? It's not like you lay there still all night long. Besides that I can't even see how anyone would keep their hand closed while asleep with it around a knife. And what if you have a dream about fighting something? Do you feel sure you won't just wake up with a bloodied blade in hand?

Fact is I do know of someone that tried to sleep with a knife in the bed with them, but they stopped when they woke one morning and the knife was opened and the blade buried in the mattress. They didn't even know how it got opened and stuck up to the hilt in a brand new mattress.

I only sleep with my wife.

Sleeping with a knife in bed, and especially in hand, is a definite indicator of deep-seated issues. You really should seek help.

Just saying.

A lot more people have knives next to them or guns for self defense than I expected.

I only have a knife on the nightstand because when I go to sleep I empty my pockets and that is the closest place to put it. I tend to sleep in basketball shorts and grab a late night snack/meal before I head off to bed so I have pockets and a knife gets transferred from my pants/shorts to those when I change as sometimes I have to defeat those dreaded plastic packages to get to the food. And quite honestly not all of them have the easy tear tabs, pre-sliced salami comes to mind as a big offender of this when you want to make a quick sandwich.

I also try to keep a flashlight or my cell phone on the nightstand so I have a light in case of an power outage. It's a real pain to find where your going in the middle of the night with no power, especially if you have dogs than it becomes a game to not step on them on your way to find a light source especially when they specialize in getting in your way.

Folder on the nightstand, fixed blade in the nightstand drawer, machete on a nail behind the nightstand lamp, museum replicas limited venetian stiletto under the pillow. Lol. Glad there are more of you out there...

^ I think 99% of people that are not living in a war-state would agree with this. Keeping protection near when you're asleep is one thing, keeping it in your hands while you're asleep is another.

By how much you use a knife, opening it can become muscle memory. This means if your dreaming you might actually open it and accidentally harm yourself and anyone else in your bed. I would seriously consider to stop doing this because you might wake up one day wondering what you have done.

My Glock 17 with happy stick, Surefire light, Spyderco knife and cell phone are * at hand * whilst sleeping in the bed, but not * in hand *. LOL.

Sleeping with, no. But my nightstand has a bunch of knives on it(nothing high end, but a lot of my budget knives are set there). Also, there's a little hook nailed into the wall right next to my bed, hanging from it I have a sheathed neck knife, a Cold Steel Delta Dart, and a small flashlight.

Not in bed unless I fall asleep with all my EDC still on.

There's a fixed blade within arms reach and an 18 inch baton hanging on the wall in its sheath.

Hoping to get a firearm permit to change that to something more substantial, hoping more that a home invasion will never occur, and hoping even more that if it did I had a gun and was present to protect my property and those that I love!

Sleeping with a blade physically in hand seems a bit dangerous...but hey what do i know.

Wow, some of you folks are awfully generous to provide such an array of weapons for any perps that might happen to get close to you while you are sleeping. You should hang a sign over the weapons saying, "beat me over the head with this one first".
