I'll check my pile Clay, I may have an extra '88 "BUCK" 303. Give me a couple of days to rummage through the mess.

That sounds great! If you find one you want a good home for I'm your guy! Thanks for checking.

I generally say, first thing to do is do a forum search. I almost said that on this thread but enjoyed posting some info. BUT, I did do a search covering some of the info for anyone interested. Always lots of info from lots of folks other than just me.

Before this, all the info I have found on differences between CC & SC was gleaned from several snippets in several threads, but thanks to 300 we now have a visual guide to reference. The detailed comparison photos of liners, bolsters & stamps is great, thanks.

Thanks to everyone for all the series 300 information.......I've learned so much in such a short period of time!! Keep it coming please.....

I've found several older threads on different 300 series knives but nothing active for a while....perhaps we can keep this one alive for a while. Great place to share and learn about our beloved Buck slippies

Couldn't agree more. I'll be posting some pictures of the collection as it has come together......it is truly amazing how I can amass almost 70 slippies in such a short period of time!! I would love to see this tread continue as I've learned a ton within it's pages.

Agreed. I found a granddaddy barlow that was double-stamped on the blade.....thought my eyes were playing tricks on me!

Never say never and never say always, and don't ask me how this happened. Sometimes it's fun to have an oddball.

Ok, so here is my next question........especially for the collectors.....which Buck 300-series knife do you carry on a regular basis....or do you carry any....or is tied to the task at hand?? I'm a criminal investigator, so I carry larger self-defense knives every day....both fixed and folder. I also rotate through slippies to have as "odd-job" use knives......and yes my pockets/belt are quite full when you add in all the other things that go with the profession!! However, now that I'm being exposed to all the incredible 300-series knives that Buck has made, I'm left with the quandary of what to carry?? I hope I don't offend anyone with this question.....much akin to "do you prefer your son to daughter"......"do you prefer your auto or pump shotgun"....."do you prefer 1911 vs. Walther".......but now that the Buck bug has grabbed ahold......I'm just curious how the sickness or need manifests for each of you on a regular basis. I think I can sum it up this way.....while I love collecting knives......I greatly prefer USING knives.....

Just promoted this one to pocket duty after finding a new in the box for my shelf. Before this was a new modern 3 spring 303

Very nice......the first Buck my dad gave me was a 303....still have it as a matter of fact. It has been cleaned up and retired.......

I don't carry my Camillus-made 300's as I have an entire set of all of them sold through their catalog from "72-'86, (don't have all the "versions", just one of each model), and want to preserve those and keep them together as a "set", (they are kept in a roll). I also don't carry my SFO's, just too scarce, they live in a display box, but I do carry my Buck-made #312 & #314 Trappers occasionally, in fact the #312 "small" Trapper is one of my all time favorite EDC's. It's sized perfectly at 3 1/2" closed for my hand, and I just love the hollow ground blades on both of those models. In fact of all the Buck-made 300's I think those two models are their pinnacle as far as quality, some of the smaller models I've seen and handled just aren't as well built in my opinion. I wish they would offer those models again, they were excellent pocket knives.

Here's one that seems to be an exception to a rule. 300Bucks told me when I landed my 85' 303 that other then the no date stamp the crooked shield was the other difference between this and the other 3 in this " series" but you can see this 86' has the same crooked shield.

Excellent examples. They represent the always "almost" rule. Changes are not a line in the sand, they can drift this way and that way depending on how the knives are assembled. Knife parts are used up, not set aside on a particular calendar date. Watch close and you will see the small differences. The late 80s's and 90's were interesting times with the four models being build in house and then new spring and blade designs. 300

My club knife came with a thin leather 'sheith ' and I was a little curious if other Buck models did also? In all the pictures I don't think I ever seen one. If they did were there different colors or styles and were any stamped with the Buck logo? I like my club knife and use it and the pouch adds a little bit of class and keeps the scratches down.

Love to see some pictures of your knife....thanks.

AF I'm pic posting challenged...I've never had a photo bucket account and use a Note 3 to surf the Web and participate in the Forum here..But ITE has called me out and I plan to have my son step -by-step walk me thru the whole process including setting up a account so I can share and enjoy my 112's and the forum better. I have the one without the BCCI logo ( if I remember right the only one left ) and it's held up well. I got it because of the BG42 steel and to always have a knife with a truly wicked sharp blade. I lent it to my drummer one time ,once. ..so I will have to sharpen the main blade. When I finally get a pic hosting account LOOK OUT.

Here is something a little different from the 300 Series family tree, #310 Whittler, 3" closed. According to the notes I have these were first made in '94, (this one just so happens to be date stamped '94), first appeared in the Buck catalog in 1998, with the last appearance in the catalog being the year 2000. You see them floating around occasionally.
This one is in "good used" condition, not pristine by any means, but in good usable condition. Though the master blade is scratched from use, the small blades are virtually unused, and the little knife walks & talks as one would expect from Buck, even a well used Buck. I'll probably put this one in my EDC rotation right away. I'm sure 300 will have some fascinating inside info on the frame, I just wanted an example of the model, and the fact that this one is used has little bearing on it. It's a good enough example for me, (for now), and will be carried and used for what it is, a handy little pocket tool.

Nice find and interesting knife. I do sometimes wish I collected more then 303's as I'm missing out on some fun.
