Quick comment of springs, once you get you HT done the key is the overlap of the spring and the blade, I use 2mm. Some times I only need 1.5 but that is ok, I can sand the spring and loose some tension. If I can push the spring up enough with a screwdriver by hand I will not change it.
One thought is I do leave more material on the back of the spring than other makers may. This allows me to sand the spring to fit the liner without changing the shape of the knife. This will also loosen the spring. Work with the stiff spring until you get close to final assemble, you can always sand a little off and repolish if you think its too tough.
One last thought for ben, the spring is important for the snap but the other part is the position of the pivot hole compared to the contact point of the spring. If with a good spring you are not getting great snap you may need to move the pivot hole forward just a little bit. That distance is the leverage that spring uses to snap the blade.
