I'm a noob and can not help my self to ask to you guys.

I saw an A.G. Russell Dogleg in VG-10 and European stag it was made in Seki, Japan. What do you think about it?

I don't know anything about the particular knife you are referring to, but in the past, there have been knives of good quality made for different manufacturers in Seki...
VG-10 seems to be getting decent reviews.
They folks in Seki should be good, they have been doing it for many years.

Good steel, potentially beautiful scales, and from a city known for great knives. A formula for success IMO.

Since it's coming from A.G. Russell, I'm sure the quality, fit, & finish of the knife are all excellent.

He's been dealing with the top makers in Seki City for a long time.

Here is the knife. I haven't held this one (as usual for A.G. Russell, this knife is priced way out of my comfort zone), but generally speaking I am a fan of Seki City knives. They definitely know what they're doing when it comes to making fine knives.

there is a factory near here in my town in china. that is run by japanese they make knives here and then send these to japan and well then its anyones guess what is sold from there.

i would venture to say or to think twice on this point. the chinese or russian stag is almost as the eurpoean stag in color that is what we have here in china. i can not by eye tell the difference.

just be care be careful.

i don't think AG Russell is the problem. I think their name and reputation is well known.

But as for the people\companies that sell to them and their story. well who can say?

Rifon2 is correct AG's knives all have wonderful fit and finish...if you would like further clarification Ag does have a forum on another knife site..you can always read or post on that forum.

AG Russell has one of the best reputations in the cutlery business. Since 1964 he has worked hard to earn the respect of collectors and users alike. If AG says something is made in Seki, you can take that to the bank.

i nothing but respect for AG Russell.

I don't think they would knowingly do anything wrong.

Sorry for coming across harsh, I didn't mean to word my statement strongly, just convey the idea that AG is thorough about working with his sources, and to answer the original poster's question that yes, you can take AG at his word.

i personally have several knives in my hands now. they are marked made in japan but they are made 7 miles down the road from where i am now in china.

A company asked me at the shot show this year to produce knives for them. i will not name names. but they told me in great detail on how to produce the knvies with china on them. where it is to be located on the knife and how easy to remove it.

it is not one company doing it. its a few.

I have the most respect for AG Russell.

I am on the front lines of knife making in china. Please do not try to tell me what I see or don't see with my own eyes.

I will say I have not saw any knives with AG Russell anywhere here.

i agree with that 100%. but these days people are out to make money. they will do what they want to accomplish it.

that is human nature it is not only for knives.

I don't think this thread will go to "fake vs original" story. I will asked Mr. Russell personally if I want to buy that knife.
My curiousity came from a fact that slipjoint is very American. While I have japanese knife magazines that shows how they also makes some great slippies. That's why I raised the issue. Could we get back to knives, please:).

These are pretty strong assertions, regardless of what you see, if you have no proof it's your word against the japanese manufactuers.

Feel free to carry on this discussion in the "Feedback" section, folks...

The 3 Japanese knives I've bought have all been exceptionally well-made and expertly finished.

Several Chinese made knives I've had have also been of very decent quality......

The slip-joints shown are almost certainly of a very high level of finish and they come from a most reputable source. That ought to settle the matter.
