Update: My knife now has considerable side to side blade play! Even if I tighten the pivot to the point where the blade doesn't close, it still wiggles! Sure as hell didn't have this problem before. Maybe the new liners are thinner or something, but whoever put them on either didn't check for blade play (this is HEAVY play, impossible to miss) or they simply didn't care. Spyderco tells me I can just "send it back if you are not satisfied with the repairs." I would much rather have crappy looking liners than the new blade play problem. Even though I should not have to settle for either.

So to fix this problem is appears I will have to spend another $5 to ship the knife, and wait another 2-3 weeks to get it back. While all that time hoping that when it comes back, it doesn't have a new problem.
As you can imagine, I am very disappointed.

I wish I could've posted this update on the original thread, but mod "Morrow" locked it for no clear reason.

The original thread can be found here: http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php/947049-Sloppy-Spyderco-Fit-amp-Finish-Manix-2-XL

Anyways, my blade came back. I was surprised to have no real way to telling if they gave me a new knife or just replaced the liners. But either way, it's back and it's flawless. It took 2 weeks and it wasn't a fun experience, but the problem is fixed and I'm happy.

Here's the weird thing- the knife I sent had the original full brushed stainless steel liners. The knife that I got back now has heavily milled out high polished liners. They are completely skeletonized now, and almost mirror polished. The knife weighs less now clearly. I don't mind this at all, but does anyone know if they recently made this change?

I got mine 2-3 months ago, and they're full liners, skeletonized liners must be a recent CQI change.

I'm considering sending mine in after seeing this. I looked at it close up and one of the liners is exactly like yours in the original thread! :(

I have the same problem also with one of my sprint run Manix 2.Sending mine in soon.

I think it was pretty clear. If not, there are some language comprehension issues here. :)

So it makes sense that you now you have started a new thread without calling Spyderco to ask them a simple question. I'm not sure if that's why they have a customer service department, but it may help!

You didn't notice this "considerable side to side blade play" when you opened it? Now play appears in 24 hours that can"t be tightened out? You just have the worst luck.

Don't assume things. I have been busy and I have barely touched the knife. When I took it out to actually play with it I felt the wiggle. The blade came with wiggle, I noticed it yesterday but I have more in my life than Bladeforums.

Maybe you shouldn't assume I was attacking you or being negative. You looked it over well enough to notice the milled liners but didn't detect "considerable" blade play?

Yeah I just opened it to look at the liners and after I saw them, I thought all was good and it went right into its box. Sorry for misreading, it seemed sarcastic.

Sorry to hear about your trouble.

It's interesting to hear about the drilled out liners. The Gayle Bradley went through the same progression, starting with full liners and before long had them drilled out to save weight. I wonder how often that has happened.

So you decided to sell it off now?

I was able to some of the bladeplay. It just needs to be tightened and then oiled, but even then it wiggles. It's a brand new knife and I need to get rid of it so what can you do, I'll probably sell it.

If you had just sent the knife back to the dealer in the first place all of this probably could have been avoided

Rbc, thanks for the update on your knife. Sorry you're having troubles. I know a lot of folks don't like seeing these types of threads. But, I like to hear the progression of how your issues were handled by Spyderco. I had issues with a knife from another manufacturer, and posted about them on BF. I had folks criticize me too. Don't sweat it. It's good to see publicly how companies handle issues with their knives. In my case they took care of business and fixed all issues after two trips to the factory. You may think about giving them another shot.

Really? Something you had to look "up close" for bothers you enough to make you want to sell the knife?

This is getting to be a bit ridiculous.
