Sloppy Spyderco Fit & Finish- Manix 2 XL UPDATE

Uh, you did say so many were having this issue. It is reasonable to ask how many you've seen if you say there's a bunch of them.
2 or so wouldn't be "so many."
Dozens would.

fair enough, including mine I've seen 4. here's a pic of mine btw

I have the same exact problem with my Manix 2 XL, except mine is a lot worse than yours. One of the liners is almost "fully" semi jimped all the way around. Just bought it from BladeHQ and it's the none drilled out liners.

After reading your post I'm not sure if I should send it in for repairs, I'm still thinking about the issue. Getting a replacement from dealer is no longer an option for me since I had it for more than 2 weeks.

Anyways, this is the first Spyderco knife I've gotten that I'm disappointed with, and since I collect and don't use my knives, this defect is bugging the crap out of me.

Although you are out of the stated return time frame of BladeHQ I recommend contacting them anyways about doing an exchange. They have been great in all my dealings with them and I bet they will treat you right. If they are not able to help you out then I would get a hold of Spyderco and make arrangments to send it in for warranty repair. I wish you the best in getting a satisfactory resolution.

If it bothered you why didn't just exchange it when you first got it?

Is it just me or does this question seem pointed and irrelevant, especially after I've stated in my post that I've passed the returnable time phase for BladeHQ?

Your question seems to imply that since I didn't return it when I first got it, then it must have not bothered me, therefore why am I making this post?

You didn't notice this "considerable side to side blade play" when you opened it? Now play appears in 24 hours that can"t be tightened out? You just have the worst luck.

And here's another one from this thread, if you look at how the other guy responded to your post, he definitely took offense in your statement also. Could it be the way you word your questions comes across as offensive?

Thanks but I am not even challenging or doubting his post. Just simply asking how many he had seen.An example might be I checked out my local knife shop and they had 6 in stock and they all appeared to have this issue or this is the 2nd on I've returned for the same problem.

Rycen- you have a very sarcastic way of wording things. Everything you've posted sounds doubtful and that you're somehow high-and-mighty. Just my opinion.

Thank you for the new pictures! Those liners are horrendous.. I'm very curious why Spyderco's quality control let thees leave the factory like that. Maybe I'm just spoiled by Kershaw- they would have sent me 3 replacement knives if they saw my pictures ;)
If I were you I'd send them back. A company can get 1,000 things right but the one mistake is the thing we all remember, and if you ask me, these liners are a pretty significant mistake.

6 of these in one shop with the same issue? Was Spyderco just hoping people wouldn't care enough to send them back in for warranty repair?

Well I'll admit I can be a little curt sometimes intentionally offensive I certainly am not. If you read my other post I think most of the way he was treated in the first and this post is a little out of the ordinary and a little over the top especially for this particular forum. I mean two threads for a minor problem that could have been handled with the dealer is a bit ridiculous.

My question to you wasn't pointed at all it was very simple. If you had a problem with the knife why not do the simplest and easiest thing and return it to the dealer. I also asked you how many you had seen to get an idea if it is a problem or not. I can tell you the one I have sitting here in front of me has no issues. That doesn't discount yours having a problem.

I was making up a fictitious example to show that a quantity like that in the same place may be a problem not two from different people.

High and mighty? Did you read this post?

One thing we seem to forget sometimes is people's expectations are often very different. While I didn't see a problem with the liners in his first post it doesn't mean there wasn't one. Let's try to look at it from the opposite way as non-knife enthusiasts it's $100 knife that doesn't meet your expectations no matter what they are. Can you remember the first time you told someone that you spent $100 on a knife and the look they gave you? The only thing we can really do as a community is to educate someone that there expectations are unreal at a given price point or manufacturer or material etc.I think after you've been collecting for a few years it is easy to become jaded.

Bottom line if you are just not happy with the knife for whatever reason the simplest and easiest thing to do is to return it.

Is there something about new guys that makes them over sensitive. You ( both) have argued when people asked you questions, taken offense and attempted to tell old timers how they are wrong.

Somethings wrong with that picture.

There's also something wrong with the whole "knives must not only function perfect but look perfect in every way". I'd love to see you work a line making something like these in the time frames they have while doing as well as they do. That might give you some perspective on quality. Then, try running a business, paying the bills while making customers like you happy. :)

There's also something wrong with exaggerating how other companies would "
have sent me 3 replacement knives if they saw my pictures

You are so full of exaggerations between this and your last thread it's difficult to take you seriously. As much as I respect and like Thomas W. at Kershaw I wish you would go over there and try these shenanigans.

Your expectations are off. Your forum manners and etiquette make you annoying at the least. Your lack of knowledge makes the problem worse than it is.

Perhaps you should lurk for a year and learn some things, get exposed to more knives from different companies, and possibly go see a knife show with custom makers to help round out your knowledge. Learning more about knife companies and their manufacturing techniques, and why they use those techniques would most definitely help.

Also, don't take things personal, or think you are special in some way.

Also, you started this thread Rainbow Canyon. That means you can close it.

Joe
