Small compact knife for short hikes.

Entrek Badger is a good candidate.

I also use my Vic Camper for most short hikes. The Badger, I got recently, and seems a very stout small knife, with a full size handle. Also a Vic Trekker is a very good choice, or a RAT-3.

When hiking I like a neck knife. It's always there when you put down your pack and it's always within easy reach when walking. Concealment is not an issue. I generally carry a CRKT Kasper fixed blade in the plastic sheath it came with or the Kershaw boot knife, also in it's factory sheath (I threw out all the straps & stuf - just carry on a chain or thin nylon cord). In my pack will be a Cold Steel Peacekeeper and a Astra A70 9mm. Oh, and some other "stuff" that makes hiking fun.

Justin does the handles, here's mine he did in sheephorn.

I carry a mora usually the 2000 or a clipper but i do love the look of your ranger knife!
I just did a quickie search and don't see many vendors.
Where did you get yours? Can anybody recommend a good seller that ships them outside the U.S?
The pics i have found (the pics here are better!) show them wrapped with paracord. Do they have predrilled rivet/pin holes under the paracord?
I don't have a problem rehandling knives but drilling holes in steel is a major pain.

I'm always wearing a BM210TK Snody Activator, but on my belt I almost always have a Bark River mini-Skinner or Northstar (very light medium length knife)

ON EDIT: Oh the SNody 220......just saw your post. ((( :D )))

I just ordered a Bark River Black Water boot knife. Small and compact would be a pretty good way to describe it.

I generally prefer a 4-5" blade but I do sometimes just hike with my WolfPup, this is as compact as I go....

usually on a day hike I'll bring either a vic farmer or a mini-canadian (sometimes both) if I'm bushwacking or plan on stopping for some bushcraft or making a fire I'll throw a fiskars axe in my bag..

CRKT dog fish is the smallest I will ever bring. I plan on replacing it with a Mora 510 when I recieve it.

not the big one , but the little one ... but it gets carried for short hikes , for a walk along the river , for long hikes , when I drive up town or across the country ...

I like the simple things in life :)

I'll throw in my vote for the Benchmade Griptilian and the Rukus for bigger stuff. The griptilian is as small as I'll ever go, I sort of hit that 3.4" and up range about a year ago, I can't get myself to carry anything smaller. The biggest and heaviest thing I'll carry is the Rukus. The rukus is almost like a fixed blade and is probably tougher than some too, but I only take this when I am planning an extended camping trip. For everything else, the Griptilian can cover.
