I been reading Carl's Peanut tapes and decided this Sunday to start a month long carrying a peanut or small Jack or Stockman for the Month of June. I carried a Camillus 21 peanut Sunday and a Buck 375 2 blade knife today . I am pairing it with a variety of SAK knives. I also carry a lockback in my back pocket for emergency situations.

If you never tried this please join me and see if these little knifes can tote the load .
Please keep them under 3 inchs total length closed.

I carry my imperial peanut often, and am already aware of how capable such a knife can be.
I've even started to realize how capable the little vic classic can be, after all they were my grandpa's sole pocket knife for years.
That's a bit extreme for my tastes, but I know that I could get by with just a vic classic if I had to.

99% of the time i use my ESEE Candiru
Doesn't fold, but it's pretty small. Rather depend on that than a folder any day.

I've carried this little guy a lot and never really wanted for a larger knife:

I like a larger, modern folder too of course, but never doubted the capabilities of the little Camillus.

Cool challenge. I have a few knives that fit this class. The smallest is a new-ish HAP 40 Spyderco Man Bug that rides on my key chain. I may give that one a go.

I have no doubt I could get along just fine with only a small knife in my pocket. I just prefer the BIG ones.

I prefer normal (SAK) sized knives for work just because they don't require so much trickery but for free time I pretty much always carry something smaller.

Carl has convinced many people that they are being knife sophisticates by carrying something that offers a two finger grip and a cutting edge the size of a fingernail instead of something more useful

I often say ninety or more percent of daily out in the world cutting for your average city person can be taken care of by the little Omega box knife bellow.
I have recently found out what a total failure I can be at knife challenges. The Omega will do most of what I need to do. Will I be joining the small knife challenge ? No . . . I am weak I want and enjoy carrying and using larger EDCs like the Stag Trapper below or larger. Usually I am a fairly logical and practical person . . . apparently my knife EDC is where I draw the line.

My EDC is small by most anyone's standards, but still doesn't meet the criteria of <3" folded. Kershaw Hotwire comes in around 3 1/2". I have smaller knives at home - a couple are of the "swiss army clone variety". They are such worthless examples of anything even hoping to be useful, I won't offend the group's olfactory centers by posting or talking about them. They don't take an edge, they are hard to work since at best I am only able to grip one with 2 1/2 fingers - yes I have large hands - and I have no doubt I could bend or break one with just a small amount of sideways pressure. :p
So I'll stick with my little Kershaw, and let my hands make it look like it meets the criteria. lol

You know, I have been considering posting a 30 day challenge here on BF.com and you beat me to it!

It may be 1/4 over length, but I will take you up on this challenge and carry my old Shcrade 33OT paired with the vic classic for the whole month . I've got a small fixed blade on me right now but it'll get put away on Friday ( hasn't see much carry time and I gotta at least give it a week )
If this challenge had been posted 6 days ago I would've chosen the imperial peanut instead.

It'll be this minus the fb.

This is not really a challenge for me as I have been carrying a Buck 303 Cadet for about 40 years now. The main blade is just 2.5" long but I actually use the sheepsfoot the most. When I worked as an electrician for an electric utility company I skinned a lot of control cable with that little knife. In the last 2 years I have tried several different knives with different types of locking mechanisms including liner locks, frame locks, Axis locks, back locks, and presently a Sage 5 with a compression lock. I have liked them all but I still prefer to carry the small Cadet.

Today I carried and used a Taylor made 72 peanut . I cut up a tomato and cucumber for lunch, cleaned my nails , cut out the proof of purchase from a bag of Community Coffee. I also opened the mail with it. I reprofiled the blades before the day started so these blades are thinner and it slices better. 120 and 220 did the heavy lifting.
Wed is going to be the smallest Walden Stockman 108OT.
Thanks for joining this little adventure.

Does it have to be a traditional knife/slip joint or just under 3"?

In addition to a modern folder clipped tip in my right front pocket, , I carry the blue Case in my left front pocket and keep the SAK in my medicine bag.

If the blade just has to be under 3 inches, the Delica, the Native 5, and the mini Griptilian all qualify, among many others. All of these have decent handle size to make them more useful.

You have touched on the ugly truth that is the gorilla in the room. The fact is, we on this forum and forums like it are knife nuts. We are afflicted with an obsession with knives that is not shared by most of the rest of the populace. In fact, the truth is, most people these days don't even carry a knife at all. Millions upon millions of people get by in life with no knife on them at all. They use a house key to saw open the tape holding box shut, or use something else. A small cheap box cutter will cut open boxes, open mail, cut a string, and more.

But…we the afflicted and obsessed, would never do that. We have to have not only a knife, but one that is a point of pride and status among our fellows. We have to have the bet wonder steel of the month, the fastest opening if some Chinese paratroopers or zombies need to be killed. We watch each months knife magazine to see what new hyped knife is the "One" .

The truth is, millions of people live their life with no knife or just a Victorinox classic on a keychain, because they don't care. They are not obsessed like us. That the humble little Victorinox keychain SAK is the the worlds best selling pocket knife, must mean something. It was only when I got older that I saw Jeff Randall was right, that 98% of the knife market is BS.

I've got by very well for days at a time with just these two;

The little Remington/Camillus peanut served me steady as my edc pocket knife for a few years.

That's an awesome little peanut there.

BTW I may be the only knife nut that doesn't fit your description. I love them but am not obsessed the latest and greatest anything.
