SMKW

Waiting for actual evidence of a "bait-and-switch scam."

In general, it's a good idea to have evidence prior to making an accusation.
Mea culpa, I overreacted somewhat. However, SMKW did get back to me and said that they analyzed the web site traffic and I did get screwed. So they sold me one from whatever extra stock they kept on hand. That was very generous of them, so credit goes where it is due.

Oddly enough, they sent it FedEx which took almost two weeks to get to Mass. Maybe it was hand carried by someone on a bicycle. That, plus the slowness of their web site, still makes me a wary customer. But they did the right thing by me.

I thought Spyderco sprint-run releases were always a 'train wreck' thanks to the flipper community.
I have had good experiences with SMKW. They used to have pretty good sales before Covid slowed knife manufacturing down. Their shipping is expensive, but I typically get enough items so that my shipping is free.
Their store near Gatlinburg is huge. It takes me about 3 hours to make my way through the entire store. It's like a Disney World for knifeaholics.

The flippers really spoil things. Buck-Of-The-Months show up on eBay at twice the price as soon as they sell out. People just scoop up exclusives in order to re-sell them. All that effort, time and expense (eBay commission) probably leaves them with a few dollars profit ... is that really the best way these people can find to use their time? Pity they can't leave the people who appreciate and collect knives to purchase the various customs and exclusives.

And now we've moved from a false claim of a supposed "bait-and-switch scam" on Spydercos, to complaining about flippers of Buck-Of-The Months.

IMO, this thread was posted on a false predicate, is unfair to SMKW, and should be shut down . . . and actually deleted.

SMKW admitted their drop was an IT debacle, and they deserve criticism for that, although they did right by me. As for flippers, anyone is welcome to post an argument supporting this practice.
