Minus 9 wind chill and the heat lamp in the well house went out. Been thawing pipes since daylight but have water now. Bacon and eggs, gravy and biscuits with local honey and churned butter from the kids. Three cups of stout, steaming coffee and a tall OJ. Much better. Looking forward to second breakfast and first nap. :D

It's all good.

Trade, check out heat tape, for plumbing. You can wire it to a switch or its own breaker, so that you can turn it on and off as needed. It does a really good job or keeping pipes from freezing.
I used to live in a mobil home and you have to have it on those since the pipes are pretty much completely exposed underneath.

I'll look into that. The heat lamp kicks on at 38 degrees and it normally does a great job, I just screwed up not putting a new one in this year. It rarely gets this cold here.

In other news, guess I have a electrical issue in my shop. I was running my welder fabbing up a cabinet to hold all of my work in progress blades. (Theres a lot of them, need some organization) the breaker flipped which has never happened before. But what is stranger than that, is two other breakers flipped that wasnt even on that circuit. Now I know squat about electricity, but I know enough that that isnt right. Gonna call my electrician this morning. See if I can talk him into a couple of beers, then put his ass to work. :D

sounds like a loose ground -- check the clamp on the grounding rod for the shop (or house if the shop doesn't have its own ground rod), then check the breaker panel and make sure the nut holding the grounding bar is snug/tight.

heat tape is good, but a 75 watt incandescent bulb works pretty good in a nicely insulated well house.

I'm sure he was thinking just the edge would break off, which, of course, means he wasn't thinking too hard, haha. If you notice, on the second stomp, he stomps with both feet. Anywhos, not the sharpest knife in the drawer. ;)
Maybe he was thinking that he could snap it off and surf it down. Or like dresnor postulates, the theory of modern Darwinism. Didn't look like it killed him or made him sterile though, so we can probably expect more of those types of videos a couple decades hence. I don't even think he's sharp enough to be in the knife drawer.

Just finished cutting some foam to cover crawl space grates and spigots. I don't recall -9 before wind chill in my lifetime. If necessary I'll just run all my stoves under the house. :p

About to get in a run and then go gas the truck. Wife is out getting a few groceries now. Kids have two-year-old, new sleds they have never gotten to use. They're excited. Hell, I am too. I love to take them sledding, hot chocolate in tow.

I had breakfast pizza -- picked up a pre-made crust on the way home last night.
covered it with freshly made pepper gravy, sauteed onion & anaheim pepper matchsticks, spicy "sausage", scrambled eggs, and pepper co-jack.

Congrats. I hate you more now.

I'm saving them for 11ses.
SWMBO is making blackberry cones for second breakfast.

Well, yesterdays pet adoption event did not net me a new Dog (the one I was there for left only a few minutes before it was my turn). However we did have a black kitty follow us home... This is probably the most affectionate cat I have ever had in my life, its almost ridiculous lol. Got home and for the first time I think in ever, both kids, the wife, and the new kitty all took a nap... SO I snuck out to the garage...

Not to long ago I reground my KA-BAR 1211 into more of a convex/scandi whatever on my wet rocks and it definitely was an improvement. However, an honest criticism of the KA-BAR F/U as a utility knife IMO is that they are not great cutters for food etc. Meat is fine, but other stuff not to great. My regrind helped, and made an enormous improvement in wood carving but was not quite there yet... so I took it to my 2X42..

Grind probably came up another 1/8 of an inch, then it was very thinly convexed. No edge bevel etc etc. Will have to beat up on it some to see how it'll hold up, but I think it'll be ok. Also exaggerated the clip a little more. Have used it to whittle a little and it has very scandi like performance, made sammiches, cut up some apples, etc and it cuts a lot more efficiently. Will be wearing on the belt for the next couple of days to text out the edge stability. Fun little project. Now I just have to decide whether or not to cut the back guard down... HMMMM

I'll take whatever weather I can get, as long as it doesn't include freezing rain/drizzle/fog. Just gotta dress a bit warmer than normal when it gets below zero.

Look, the furthest north I've lived is Virginia. I'm a wimp when it comes to real weather.

Fair enough. The wife and I every winter talking about exploring options to move south hehe.

Ill trade your -9 for my -40 windchill :(
We've got -20's windchills building here.....and I just shovelled 5 feet of snow off my back deck. Raked the roof of the shed of 3+ feet of snow, shovelled out near the back slider and looked wistfully at the space where I'm pretty sure my pool is:

The firepit is in there somewhere, too. I had to dig a pit around the door in the fence to get back there, then squeezed it open and was staring at a 5' wall of snow. I almost gave up. But the top layer is pretty dry and light, so I knocked it down and climbed in with my snowshoes. I snowshoed up the steps to the back deck (second story) and had a little pause; When I first started shovelling the top of the "safety" railing was level with my toes.

It's cold enough that our saltwater tidal pond looks frozen solid, tho I doubt it is. Water level changes 6-8 feet twice daily, so I gotta imagine it's hollow under a lot of it.
I have some sympathy for you warm temperate weather folks experiencing cold weather.....'cause I know you're just not equipped to deal with it ;).

Today being Sunday and all... I decided to let Luke 22 verses 36 and 38 rule my EDC (much like every other day but with more emphasis on a larger knife). While Jesus' followers were able to produce 2 roman swords, I have 4 knives :D

I am loving how slicey this 5 is! I need to get rid of the kids so I can spend some time in the garage trying to make a set of wooden handle scales.

And the youngest is pretending to be a fire fighter.... kinda cute imo!
