Any of you ever had one of those moments where you cant decide what lense to take for your DSLR camera. No? I must be the only one.

What camera are you using? What are you planning on shooting?

Nope, because I've used my stuff enough to know what I need. Now if I had to go ultralight, I'd be screwed.

Speaking of lenses I need a multi purpose lense for mine. Its a Cannon and I have a telephoto but the regular one bit the dust. Any advice?

Im shooting an honors assembly at my school. I cant decide because I dont know how far im going to be from the stage and what kind of lighting there will be.

lol it's ok, I've lived with it my whole life.

It was only a big pain in the arse on sunday when I had to stand very very still with exposed hands in the cold weather.

so how do I gold member?

Send spark money then change your user group. No one has lense advice ????????

Follow the link Doogoon. It will take a few days, but it's worth it!

What the heck were you doing on Sunday?
Standing at ease mostly. That's like the worst position for cold weather T___T

Following the link falalala

EDIT: lol totally brain farted there. I was in formation for a remembrance day ceremony.

If you are shooting for the school, get a 50mm fixed and go where you need. Best spot would be right in front of the stage.

What's your budget? I love the 24-70 f2.8 and 24-104 f4. The first will be better for low light. Also, Tamron makes a 17-50mm with f2.8 aperture (iirc) that I've rented and plan on adding it some day.

Yep, this. In a gym or auditorium, I'll use a 50 f1.4 or 85 f1.8.

Not really, they make an adapter ring to attach NIKON to Cannon and vice versa but with that you lose the VR function and depending on which lens some have the autofocus on the lens some on the camera body. So that will also make a difference in options.

The extra space behind the ring sometimes reduces your aperture, too. So instead of getting f1.4 on the 50, you might end up only getting to f2.5.

.

The old one is 18-55 I dont know how much lenses are, but right now I have a $600 camera with only a telephoto lense so I need something at least as good as what it came with and I dont mind spending a bit more to get better. I am however a value kind of guy. I believe in buying good stuff but like the Beckers there is a value point with all products. Digital cameras are not an area I am well educated in.

Take a look at the Sigma 17-70 f2.8-4 for a good step up from that 18-55.
