Well, thanks for the the info. Everything you said is what I thought, but like I said, I'm no busse expert. I guess I just don't get it. I just don't see paying 3x what a production knife is worth just to turn around and pay big money for a sheath. However, like you said, thats half the fun, well more power to ya. I know all those guys you mentioned do great work. I've admired all of there stuff. If its worth it to you and makes you happy, then I'm happy for you. But even though I respect the knives and the custom sheaths, I can't find the logic in it......................guess I'm dumb. Or maybe then again, that why I don't own any. Who knows.

just remember kids, that dirks and daggers are generally illegal in most states.

so, it's kinda odd to buy a knife you can't legally carry. in some states, even publically display (MA is pretty evil there, esp also if it's double-edged)

fortunately, NH, the land of the free is PRETTY clean on knife laws.

they really still hate ballistic knives though.

Trust me man i understand what your saying, your not dumb, I battle myself with each purchase because of these facts.

Swamp rat to me is the perfect balance though. Its hard to find anyone using 52100 making knives under 100 bucks. And then add on their extensive heat treat and lifetime, any owner, warranty and it makes it more worth it. Its like comparing Esee to becker, I dont care for esee myself and i dont understand how they cost double the prices of ka-bars when they use the same steel, but the argument i always hear is the warranty and heat treat, same thing with swamp rat yet they are still pretty close and even with other makers using 52100. I love that steel, it just stays sharp forever for me so the price is easily justifiable for them. Now that little Busse up there, I dont think its worth $384 to anyone but collectors really, I sold my bigger Busse and got that and a couple hundred on trade. Now granted its a great little knife. looks and performs great... But 384 dollars worth of great?..... I cant say it does with a clean conscience. One real benefit is you can use them and make every dollar you spent back, If dont use them you can easily make a profit. Use it wait a couple years and STILL make a profit 9 out of 10 times. They market it in a way that keeps them valuable, changin it up and making them harder to get and own keeps demand up, and people willing to pay whatever price is listed. I have seen people buy knives for 600 bucks that I know for a fact only cost 3 hundred something less than a year ago. This makes a lot of people buy them just for the resale profit and some people make a living re-selling Busse/kin knives.

Illegal to carry double edged here, Illegal to carry ANY knife here.

Philadelphia Code §10-820. Cutting Weapons in Public Places.

(1) Definition.

Cutting Weapon. Any knife or other cutting instrument which can be used as a weapon that has a cutting edge similar to that of a knife. No tool or instrument commonly or ordinarily used in a trade, profession or calling shall be considered a cutting weapon while actually being used in the active exercise of that trade, profession or calling.

(2) Prohibited Conduct. No person shall use or possess any cutting weapon upon the public streets or upon any public property at any time.

(3) Penalty. The penalty for violation of this section shall be a fine of not less than three hundred (300) dollars and imprisonment of not less than ninety days.

in va I can open carry and with permit c.c, anout any kind of firearm but get caught with a dagger and you in big trouble lol!!

AZ has only one weapon explicitly banned from carry, concealed or open: the nunchaku, unless you're travelling to or from a martial arts event. That's completely insane, as they're more dangerous to any wielder without significant training. Then again, I don't mind that it's something I'll never consider carrying.

Im a fan of good knives and great steel no matter the name on them.

In a thread about plain steels vs. "super" steels several years ago, another member once said, "I'm not so much of a steel snob, as a steel slut". ;)

Good point... (ho ho)

Knife Rights said:
May 17, 2013: Tennessee Governor Bill Haslam signed SB1015 today making Tennessee the Seventh state to enact Knife Rights most important legislative initiative, Knife Law Preemption. SB1051, sponsored by Senator Mike Bell and with its companion bill, HB0581, sponsored by Representative Vance Dennis, repeals all existing local knife laws on the books in Tennessee and prevents cities and towns from enacting any new knife laws more restrictive than state law.

The original bills also addressed those state laws by including a repeal on the ban on switchblades, dirks, daggers, stilettos and knives over four inches in length, but because of petty political reasons that section was stripped from the bill. The preemption section that remained and has now been signed into law is arguably more important and a huge step in the right direction. However, Knife Rights is committed to passing commonsense repeal of the ban on these knives next year.

For EDC, I can live with that because a 4" fixed blade is just about perfect for me for general use, and a well-ground single-edge blade can be just as pointy as a dagger, and cut a heckuva lot better.

Everyone get it all out of your system? I don't want to interrupt whilst you are talking Busse knives or anything, but for the record, some of us come here to talk about pig riding.

After looking at the skills sticky (fire), I decided to try one of 'em out. I saw the swedish stoves that james terrio mentioned in some local shops a while ago and always thought I could make one myself, but never got to/forgot about it. When I saw him talking about it I went out and made one. It's been raining for quite a while now so that blows. Hard to find any dry tinder to put in between the spaces of the log. Some of it was still a bit moist/damp so now it's inside the shed drying up. Can't wait to lit that sucker up :D

Ok so anyone know if its possible to add a fuller on the bk17? really i just think it would look so Bada$$ on it. is there a way that wont effect the heat treat?

Anyone know of someone that has or can do this mod?

Had a river store gift card to use up so I ordered a BK11. I hate the f-ing wait for steel. I'm going to try and love this one. Gave my last 11 away.

That would be hard to do without chewing up some fullering bits on a mill since they are hardened. And cutting one out would be the only way I could think of that would be easily done by most machine shops. If you could get someone to anneal one, then it would be doable, but I don't know how well one would retake a heat treat. Terrio might have the answer there, or even be the answer. Holler at him.

I had leftover porkchops for breakfast this morning

There are very good reasons why Ka-Bar (and probably every other manu) forges their fullers in.

Can it be done? Of course! You could use stone grinding "bits" in a mill. Keep it cool, run it slow and the HT should be fine. A rotary tool or drill press would work too, but it would be a lot trickier to keep 'em straight. Either way it's gonna be a huge pain to make them uniform, 'cause grinding bits wear down really fast. Don't ask me, cuz I just don't want to do it... I can grind a whole new blade in the time that would take me :p

The right way would be to anneal it, mill the fullers properly and re-HT... a well-equipped machine shop could probably even do it without messing with the HT at all... but have you priced machine shop hourly rates lately? By the time you do all that you're gonna spend at least what the knife cost new if not double, and be well on your way to spending what it would cost to just have a custom made from scratch.

Should it be done? Fullers serve absolutely no function on a blade that small. Whether or not you think it would look cool and want to pay someone to make it happen is entirely up to you.

ETA: I do thank you for not calling them "blood grooves", though... that drives me batty :grumpy:

...I saw the swedish stoves that james terrio mentioned...

That was zuluninja, but you're welcome anyway :D
