That particular break resulted from prying on the door pin, not from cutting.

BK2s are more pre-disposed to field stripping Buicks

as for the BK3, there have only been a few/handful of documented breakings from extreme use. abuse doesn't count (and i know of one).

Another good way to get knife blanks WW is to get your own Murph. Set him in the corner of the shop with a bandsaw, a stack of steel, and a cooler of beer. 8 hours later, you'll be out of beer, the kids will be crying, your wife will be mad, your toilet will be clogged and there will be one blank cut out!

I did a little Google-fu on the manganese thing and was wondering; does the tungsten improve wear resistance and the manganese makes the steel less brittle? From the 5 minutes I spent on Wikipedia that's the impression I got.

Keep in mind that on that omni it took two guys prying on it to break it. I hate chisel grinds though.

I can picture it...because I have seen the laserlyte mini BK3. Maybe you should get one and make a cool handle.

Honestly, I seldom bother checking their website either, I just give 'em a call when I need something... there is almost always new and exciting stuff going on that they just haven't had time to post. Set aside 20 or 30 minutes though, if you get ahold of Aldo himself, he will talk your ear off .

In other news, I just tapered the taperedest tapered tang to ever grace a Growl. Dude asked me to balance it carefully and make it as light as possible... I haven't even ground the bevels yet and already the blank is trying to levitate off the bench. I may have to include some tie-downs and lead weights with it... this thing is gonna float right out of the client's hand if he's not careful...
