Our lease is up in October - I'm hoping to be able to find a nice place by then. Now I just need to find a good spot outside of the city that has or at least has space for a sufficient garage/ shop. I'd love to find a spot out in the sticks, but that probably won't happen unless I find a job out of the city again. I think I can manage without woods, but I at least need a space to tinker and park a Jeep.... or two. :D

Yea the sticks is where its at!!

It's flat-out insane what the same house costs in different states, or even different towns. My old house in WI is assessed at 90% of our current home here in TN... and we now have twice the square footage and a newer house in a better neighborhood... with lower taxes. Wooded land to build on in the boonies in WI is frankly completely out of reach for us... here, it's a screaming bargain. Hunting/fishing/camping places within a couple hours drive? Yup. Jobs in my hometown in Central WI? Zero. Jobs here... they're begging for people to get to work. Some of those jobs are pretty decent, too... factory work that a Mom or Dad can actually support a family with.

Plus the little detail that my friends/family in WI are still neck-deep in frozen nonsense, and our garden is already started...

Never mind all that. East Tennessee is terrible! Don't come here! It sucks! We don't want people realizing how awesome it is and driving land prices up...

Scored a couple of these 52100 straight razor blanks for a crazy good price. They are already HT'd to 60HRC with Cryo by PHT.

Those are sweet. Nice score, WW!

If you can stand the heat, houses are cheap, cheap down here.. I know we pay about a 1/4 of what my family and friends in California pay/payed.

here.
that is all.

ETA: apparently that was NOT all. stupid double-post thing.

The tires on my girlfriends car are shot, so she wanted me to get her a new set of good tires and wasn't worried about cost much. I went online and found a few options that get really good reviews for longevity and winter driving beings she will be doing clinicals for college next year and she will be driving out of town a LOT. I went to the tire places here and told them what I wanted, got prices, and picked one. I'm getting them put on next Thursday, so I sent the gf a message with price and when and she said its TOO MUCH!!! :grumpy: I coulda gotten her tires for $100 cheaper, but they would be louder, have less traction, get less miles out of them, and get worse gas mileage...............I figured another $100 for all the was worth it, but she wants to cheap out. :thumbdn:

Looks like you're giving her a spring tire 'gift' upgrade? :D

LOL tires are one of those things you dont need to spend top dollar on unless you NEED that specific performance... HOWEVER when you cheap out on them you pay for it... Considering tires are what actually touches the road. Its kind of bitter sweet with my wife cause she does not like to cheap out on stuff. She is of the persuasion if we are going to spend the money, might as well spend a bit more and get the better item.

My very first truck was an old ford that an older man had taken really good care of. He even still put white walled tires on it, so of course that is what I would do. They were pretty much dirt cheap and as a teenager I burned through so many hot rodding around. I was replacing rear tires left and right. I should have just bought a good set, but that was not what was important then. Miss that damn thing. lol

Lol. She might just want for me to pay for the upgrade myself. She forgets that she wanted me to have them change her rear brake pads too, so maybe I will just do that and save her the $ there.

LMAO, i understand that, the 1.25 acres im buying is costing me 13 grand. Which is a STEAL of a price IMO especially being so close to state forest land... to me that is a huge plus not worrying if/when someone will move in all around you. There is a couple more lots the same size around the corner from the one im buying all cost over 25 grand. But I got the "friends" discount of half off  :D

I looked into some land around here outside the city and found single acres costing hundreds of thousands of dollars. Just insane.

I grew up right in the area, i played in the woods im buying as a kid, My father owns property less than 2 miles north of there. And hell he has a full workshop with damn near any tool i could think of and an 80 yard gun/archery range right on his property.

Im so ready to get out the city.

Thanks man, cant wait to see what i can come up with for them.

Where in Texas are ya again?

I love Texas. I lived in El paso while in the army, and I lived in Abilene and also the midland odessa area for a couple years as well.

BTW, for those of you with Daizee 'dashi at home or on the way, I added a couple more instructional pix to the gallery thread:

Nice pics ;D

Looks like Monday might be a good day for me :)

Thanks Daizee.

Busy Friday. Sun is setting and it feels like the day just started.

Tires and brakes are the two things I really don't skimp on with my car. I got a set of yokohama tires that run about $275 a piece on my car. Not that I got them because they are "performance" tires, which they actually are but that's besides the point, they are V rated (149 mph/240kph) but they have much better traction than the lower rated ones. I also went with a hair shorter and a hair wider, stock the tire came 225/50/17 I'm now running a 255/45/17 which fits on the original wheels but it improves handling dramatically. When I first got the car, and I put the fresh tires on I was driving on a cloverleaf exit and I took the first turn at the posted 45 mph speed. I then took the next one 5mph faster, I did this till I was no longer able to maintain the speed through the turn, by the time I was no longer able to maintain the speed I was taking the cloverleaf at 95 mph. I know if someone had been watching me they would have though I was crazy as hell cause I was just driving in circles going faster and faster and faster LOL!

So you're saying I shouldn't just stick the dashi into the sheath willy-nilly?

I love Texas. I lived in El paso while in the army, and I lived in Abilene and also the midland odessa area for a couple years as well.

I am in San Antonio, south central Texas, right at the edge of the Texas hill country.. West Texas is a lot different geographically from where I am at.. I bitch about the heat quite often, but it is a really great place over all... hour and a half to the gulf coast, 3 hours from the east Texas Pines, an hour from Austin, hour and half from Mexico, 5-6 hours from the mountains at The Big Bend park... There is a lot of variety within half a days driving. We are about 8 or 9 hours east from El Paso.. Texas is a huge state, there is just about all kinds of geography in the borders.

Tires, shoes, and mattresses... Don't go cheap

I have gone cheap on all of those and had both good and bad results. Actually I don't recall ever regretting cheap tires. My 4x4 gets good tires on it though. My 2wd S10 gets whatever because it stays on dry pavement and I'm usually going slower than the speed limit. I've never actually worn out a set of tires, I don't put enough miles on my vehicles. Most of the time the tires need replacing when I get the vehicle. The tires on my blazer are probably 7 years old and have 80+% tread on them.

Iwouldhurtafly said it pretty well. Unless you need performance you will usually do fine with cheap tires.

Kick ass.... I got my tiny Grey Ghost Gear assault pack yesterday. It should be a nice replacement for my red NF.

Pix man, pix!!!

Here you go, pictures as promised. These are crappy cellphone pictures, but they are pictures. I'll get better when I'm back home, get it loaded up and the light is better.

The litelock material is a lot like the rip stop of my NF pack. No organization, but that doesn't bug me here. Its just a small, simple and lightweight pack.
