I'm gonna have to stop allowing pictures of my workbench being such a mess. What a disgrace. By the way, cbwoods, that package in the top left corner of the picture is yours. Murph left with it tonight and will have it in the mail first thing in the morning.........I will send your tracking to you in a PM.

Sweet... I was so busy drooling over that Brassback that I didn't even notice a box in that picture. :D

Google aluminium dog tag bottle opener. I'm not sure if you can etch aluminum with the setup you have? I found places that would send just a few and some that had minimums of 50 or more.

Thanks bud,

I havent done a lot of research on etching different metals but i have read you can electric-etch brass, bronze, aluminum, steel or stainless steel but different electrolytes/solutions provide better results for each.. Now dont quote me as i havent really looked into it too much and that may be inaccurate. But ill find out :D

How much did you find it on the river? Only reason I ask is on GPKNIVES they are $5 right about. I normally pick them up in stacks of 5 when I need to get a couple. They are handy little bastards!

Six bucks and change but I think that includes shipping.

That's really not that bad. You'll notice I never post pics of my bench or shop at all. There's a reason for that :p

And can i ask who Butch is?

Lloyd "Butch" Harner. He goes by butcher_block here on the forum. Highly respected for his straight razors and kitchen knives.

I think those blanks would make great friction folders. It wouldn't be that difficult for someone with a decent grinder to put nice keen bevels on those. In some ways grinding hardened steel is actually easier, because mistakes happen more slowly and less dramatically.

Speaking of bottle openers, I found the Ka-Bar bottle opener with the USMC F/U handle on the river. Might order one.

Go for it, they're cool, work well and are very sturdy :)

Thanks for the info bud!! Good to hear it shouldnt be to difficult to find someone who can put edges on them!!

Since this was a cheap investment i wont mind paying to have it done up nice, and also trying to think up some fancy handle materials.

It would be sweet to have a nice and fancy gentlemen's type friction folder made out of 1 of them.

I have a tracking number around here somewhere for you and trade... I went to the PO last night, got pizza on the way home, ate a bunch of pizza and drank a couple bourbons and fell asleep on the couch before sending out those emails I promised :o

So, I have this problem. It isn't really a problem but it's a concern. Not like "I think my testicle fell off" or anything like that. I'm apparently moving to Rapid City, South Dakota for a few weeks (At least 7 with a possibility of 12, and maybe longer) which is kind of awesome and kind of not. But it's for a sh*tty reason. My uncle works for Rug Doctor. He has for YEARS. Anyway he is having a hip replaced and so he doesn't lose his route I'm going to take it over while he is recovering. Now the concerning part. They want to hire me on, full time. When I come back out here from South Dakota, they want to give me a local route. Which means the job I've basically dedicated my life to for the last 6 years is done. I'd still be able to pick up an odd job here or there interpreting but my schedule would be no where near as free as it is now to do it.

All of that gets coupled with the fact it's a very physically demanding job. Those Rug Doctor machines aren't light. Neither are all of the chemicals that go with them. That is basically exactly opposite of the job I have now which is physically not strenuous at all but is mentally and emotionally taxing. Wages is another thing, the job I do now is WELL compensated, where as with rug doctor its actual full time work with not bad pay but it includes benefits.

There is also the fact I turned in my application to GPKnives before all of this started to come about. So they may call in which case, do I take THAT full time job when I get back from South Dakota, which may or may not pay as well as Rug Doctor, buuuuuut... It's GPKnives...

I love the Rapid City area. Some beautiful country. The Black Hills, Mt. Rushmore, Crazy Horse Monument, Custer Park, etc. It is a touristy place though. It would definitely be an improvement compared to where I live, haha.

Roof started leaking in the bathroom upstairs... Luckily its right over the shower so its not really making a mess on anything right now.

Made a phone call this morning, contractors are suppose to be here by the end of the day. While they are here they will fix the roof, replace a broken door knob to the kids playroom that my kids broke, and fix or replace the leaky faucet down in the basement in my cave.... Same day service.... Wont cost me a penny.

The only benefit i know of when it comes to renting. Makes some things a lot less stressful... Of course im paying 850 a month in rent and no matter how many years i pay that ill never own the house, and thats the biggest "con" of renting LMAO

Whats the cost of a decent house in your area? seems like you could own easy enough for what your paying in rent. However, I imagine housing is a lot higher where your at.

Well the problem i have is my credit is all jacked up. When i got injured overseas in the Army they said i could no longer work and let me out the military, but they didnt start paying me my disability for 2 years after letting me out and we lost everything we owned and had to move in with my father until i got my disability income setup... By that point my credit was ruined. Which leaves me with just the option of renting really.

But once i get the land im paying on in Florida payed off, i talked to some credit people down there that said i could use the land as collateral for a home loan despite my poor credit so thats the plan.

Yea but rent here is high. The cheapest 3 bedroom i could find was 750, and thats in an area i just would not live with kids. The area im in now isnt great... but much better than the places that cost 750, but i pay an extra 100 a month just to live on a block thats NOT a common drug area.

850 a month is just stupid. especially when utilities here is another 250-300 a month.

Im just counting the days on the calendar down until its all over LMAO

Ah I see. I figured being big city and all that rent is high. Granted, I live in sparrow fart Indiana but $850 + what your paying in utilities would put you in a pretty nice place here. I screwed up bigtime where Im at now. My wife and I bought the house we live in now, brand new in 2007. that was when the housing market was at its peak. Litterally 6 months after we bought it the housing market crashed. I guess im lucky in the sense that last time I had it appraised, it was for what I owe on it pretty much, so Im not upside down on it. But all of the extra money I put in it. (building my shop, landscaping, etc.) is pretty much money I will never see once I sell it. Which Im trying to talk the wife into. Its a nice place, but Id be happier with a smaller place out in the sticks for less.

Yea the sticks is where its at!! The land im buying is only 1.25 acres, but its down a dirt road, completely wooded, backed to 20 acres of woods no one lives on, and next to hundreds of acres of state forest land. A dream for me. Quiet and peaceful.
