Snark it, Snark it Good

I haven't had a desktop in years, been using a laptop for a while. It's at the point where when I occasionally have to use a desktop at work I find myself trying to use a scroll pad instead of the mouse.

:grumpy: I can't put James Terrio on my "ignore list" because he's a mod. :grumpy:

Really? I did not realize that was a thing. It's hilarious, though... muahahaha!! :D

Yea I used to play tuned down a whole step (sometimes even to C#) with thick ass strings. I think 11 to 56. At the moment I'm only a 1/2 step down and using 9 and 10 gauge. I use the heavy pics as well. Can't stand those thin flimsy things.

11's on the Gibson or light top/heavy bottom 10's on the Fender just feel right to me. Whole-step down (and dropped C) just sounds right. Definitely gotta have a wound G. Floppity picks are worse than no pick at all. I like the 1mm purple pointy tortex ones best. I've had a couple people say "Well jeez, why dontcha just play bass then " :D

Sometimes it depends mostly on how much range your singer has.

Haha... They think your Buckethead! That's funny. You should wear a mask at the gathering!!

They seemed pretty convinced for a while there. *shrug*

LOL! Yeah, it's that bike.

Don't drink it all in one place.

For real content creation, desktops still rule. The larger screen, larger keyboard, physical mouse and increased power are all critical for creating content that will ultimately be sold on iTunes and elsewhere.

Can this be done on a laptop? Sure, but it's just not as efficient.

Just my experience - especially right now when I'm laying out a 300+ page guidebook.

This.
cramped workspaces and undersized tools get in your way. Laptops are good if you have to move the computer around or if you can't tolerate cables for some odd reason. Otherwise they have no advantage and are much more expensive to replace as you have to throw out all the still-working parts.

Not unless you are there with me!

That sounds like a challenge...

Yeah... spilling kool-aid on the keyboard and looking at spending $800 to replace the whole dang thing cured me of laptops forever.
Angie uses her laptop all the time, and her fancy schmancy phone too. I can't get used to either one. Guess I'm just old school...

See the problem here? the data audio cassette drive has pushed the keyboard into Arizona, which means either the right wrist will be painfully askew or the user must sit to the left of the monitor. Center the monitor and user at the keyboard, and the audio cassette deck will be far out of reach (which would suck if it were a mouse).
Well played, JT. I want to make you a mix tape.

LOL!

But seriously, that's why I learned to use a mouse with my left had even thought I'm right-handed.

totally smart. because there isn't a good selection of QUALITY 'left-handed' keyboards!

Very cool. I have been using the 1.14 pitch black tortex picks for about 7 years now. Love em. Actually bought like 5 12 packs and just haven't run out yet. lol
And I do modify them to make them in between the regular and the pointy ones. The pointy are just to pointy for me.

My cousin used to play using those paper thin picks, used to drive me crazy. And BTW I play classical so I play with my finger nails and don't actually need a pick all the time.

Before that I used to use the 2.0 gator picks. Yea, I went thru a Zakk Wylde BLS phase back in the early 2000's. So glad I'm over that. haha Still have a few of those pick around for when I want to lay a bass track down.

So you play drums as your main instrument? I never really could lay down a beat. haha Actually I suck at drums. Been wanting a new Djembe tho.

Well for ya'll that's the way to go I suppose. I use my laptop to surf the web. Sometimes I'll print off a shipping label or something. The one I'm using now was like $300 at walmart and has been going strong for like three or four years. I occasionally edit and upload youtube vids but I'm not serious about it. I don't use intros or graphics, just chop out the unnecessary bits and post. And I don't have anything on my hard drive that I can't easily replace. No files or pics that aren't already on facbook or something. When it goes bad I'll get another. No big deal there. I don't have space to set up a desktop anyway.

I'm sure you meant this in a platonic, completely non-romantic, way, correct? I remember this as something you did just before asking a girl out...

I wish i knew how to cut parts out of videos.

I uploaded one last night... well around 4am this morning. But i had to delete the video because something was in the frame for a second that i didnt want posted online. And that was an 8 minute video, i have to redo it because of 2 seconds that i couldnt see from my camera but noticed after uploading it to youtube.

You should try windows movie maker. I figured out how to cut parts of videos out with it. Wasn't as hard as I was expecting it to be.
