I'll likely be doing some writing with this new Unicomp keyboard that I picked it up when we were driving through Lexington. Ok, so I'm gonna geek out a bit. This thing is made in the US (Lexington) and uses the IBM buckling spring construction (distinct clicky-clacky sound when typing) that IBM invented in the 80s.

Well geez, if you wanted me to ship a proper IBM Model-M keyboard with your birudashi you only had to ask... Can't get rid of the damn things. I've gone completely to the Filco tenkeyless.

 I need my 10 keys on the side. I never use the top numbers keys except for the special characters.

What I need is a SATA to USB thingy so i can get all my files off my laptop with the bad mother board. Over 800 dollar paper weight... But it's full of pictures and files i want.

mornin fellas.

Tracking says my Daizee Dashi will be here today :D

excellent!

Remember that the tip on those things can become quite delicate so don't pry, and be careful if you lower the sharpening angle for a keener edge.

The keypad is a horror show for right-handers and it puts the ergonomics squarely into RSS territory. If you're a lefty then it's no bother (basically right and left-handed keyboards should have switched the second the mouse became standard).

You need a SATA bare hard drive dock. they usually accept both 2.5"(laptop) and 3.5"(desktop) hard drives and have USB3 out. Not too expensive at the river store. I've used the StarTech models successfully.

I got this one in my cart now, sound ok for what i need to do?? its only 19 bucks.

Vantec CB-ISATAU2 SATA/IDE to USB 2.0 Adapter Supports 2.5-Inch, 3.5-Inch, 5.25-Inch Hard Disk Drives (Black)

Oh i forgot lol

I dont know what RSS is but im right handed and i use the number keys a lot. Its how i make all my calls, its how i budget bills everything. I can type them numbers really quick with my right hand, there was once a time i did billing and payroll for a company and used those keys all day. but if it was on the left hand side id be all screwed up LMAO

Do you mean its akward to use the mouse and the number keypad at the same time?

You want USB-3.0, not 2.0. that's why it's only $19. It's not a lot of electronics, honestly, but still. 3.0.

RSS is 'Repetitive Stress Syndrome'. The reach for the mouse way out in the Atlantic causes nerve pinching, and if you center the keyboard under the monitor, the main keys are to the left of center. Ideally the keypad and mouse should be on opposite sides. I don't do a lot of numerical entry, so I'm fine without them. But I type a LOT.

Quote worthy!

Nice grab on the oldschool keyboard Guss. I think my Dad still has one from our old 1985 Tandy 1000

LOL! Didn't realize there were so many keyboard geeks here.

Hey D,

How are you liking the Filco keyboards?

Thanks again !!

Yea but only 19 bucks is still kind of pricey for something ill use one time to transfer files over to my desktop and then throw in a box forever. Im looking for the cheapest thing that works for a one time use, i just dont read computer language LOL.

And You know... I use to only use a number pad when i did the payrolling, but when my laptop died and i got this desktop was the first time i typed on a regular keyboard in years... And months ago i mentioned on here about how my arm and shoulder was having a lot of pain from using the computer. This could have a lot do to with it. I still get the pain when sitting straight up typing and surfing for a while but lately i been holding the keyboard in my lap to reduce the crazy pain i was getting in my arm and shoulder. The wire for the keyboard gets annoying. Ill get a wireless one eventually.

Edit.. well actually i have a wireless keyboard but its a FAVI mini and its small like a phone and i dont like typing on it. I use it for the mouse though so i can lean back in my chair.. And i type small replies with it occasionally.

How are you liking the Filco keyboards?

I have bought 8 of them.
When I built my desktop for home I splurged because there was no more room in my life for a model-M-sized keyboard. It's the best keyboard I've ever used since the model-M. BY FAR. (I'm a software engineer by day, so I touch the thing a lot and with vigor.)

Then I was building a desktop for work, so I bought one for my work machine, and a second to go to the ship for my laptop (w/ external screen too). Then we renovated the data lab, and rather than put a mish-mash of mixed up ugly crap in there, I bought matching KVM gear for 5 seats. I could have gone cheap, but these keyboards will last forever as long as nobody pours coffee into them (there are RULES), and they just scream quality.

I will for sure let you know if i have any questions. And the only prying ill do with it is prying off bottle tops!!

Hehehe. that's the correct end to pry with. :-)

USB2.0 will consume more hours of your time. If your time is worth $0, then go with 2.0. It's a really good tool to have around because computers have a habit of dying or being upgraded. It's the kind of thing you might need again in the future and be REALLY glad you have it.

I'm a stickler for ergonomics as I suffered from carpal tunnel syndrome for over a year - and then cured it by fixing the geometry of my workspace. That was 15 years ago. I like the keyboard as far away from me as I can get it (no laptops on laps) because it straightens out the wrists.

He's allright... I sincerely admire his skill and talent, but it's just not my thang. I'm all about a much more percussive picking "style". Basically, I'm a frustrated drummer who plays melodies and chords with a heavy hand on the guit-fiddle. Surprisingly, that actually works out pretty well when it comes to leads... just bash 'em in the freaking teeth with every single note and bend. Chicks dig it, and men stand in awe.

Do NOT believe Derek and Pointy when they get drunk and start accusing me of being Buckethead in disguise. :grumpy:

I play with heavy picks on heavy strings, tuned down to "D-standard" at least... And despite being naturally ugly as a train full of greazy chicken guts that ran into a zombie parade, I've never hidden my face from the public, and never will.

Yea he has become one of my favorite guitar players. At first I couldn't stand him till I found his mellow stuff. He has released almost 30 albums just in 2013 and 2014 already. That's just insane. I have seen him live 2 times. The guy is a weirdo for sure. haha
If you like the heavy riff stuff, you should check out a few of his Pikes albums. He's got some stuff that's tuned way down and not a single solo on some of the albums. Just heavy rhythmic riffs.

Yea I used to play tuned down a whole step (sometimes even to C#) with thick ass strings. I think 11 to 56. At the moment I'm only a 1/2 step down and using 9 and 10 gauge.
I use the heavy pics as well. Can't stand those thin flimsy things.

Haha... They think your Buckethead! That's funny. You should wear a mask at the gathering!!

I actually had a guitar professor in college that we swore could have been Buckethead. The guy was as tall as Buckethead and could play the crap out of the guitar in any style he he wanted.

WW, you sound nothing like I expected.

QFT!! Keep them going man, you got a knack for it.. plus I am loving the creepy basement vibe too ;)

Nevermind a loom. When society collapses I intend to clothe myself exclusively in the pelts of my prey and enemies.

Got my skull dagger that I've been piddling for about 2 years done today. Eh, it wasn't as climatic as I thought it would be, I will be putting a complete thead on my subforum soon if anybody is interested in checking it out.

 Speechless.. you are a hell of a craftsman, Sir.

Picking up $12,000 tonight. Sold my bike. Payment might be in cash in small unmarked non-sequential bills. If it is, I'll take a pic and post.

If so, WELL DONE! And that Gold-Plated birudashi is in the works. ;)
