i really like my Subaru, Cbear. It's got surprisingly good acceleration for how not-powerful the engine is, and I love the transmission design. Also good gas mileage and safety features, and holds value very well to boot.

My family is full of Subarus, though I don't have one. My cousine drove her Forester over 2 light seconds before retiring it - for another Subaru.

I used to have a impreza WRX and loved it. That thing screamed. While not as sweet as a v8 it had a nice purr to the engine under full acceleration. Boxer 4 is a great engine.

We sure love our Outback Cbear. Gets good mileage and holds a lot of gear. Ran up and down the mountains in Montana and Wyoming like a champ.

See, I've done the import car thing and I'm over it. I really like having the V6 with 300hp and a stick shift in a 4 door car with an American badge on it. Yes I realize that the car I drive is a European designed, Australian built "American" car but still the money comes back to the states eventually.

That said, I'm really looking at a Subaru. I know it goes against EVERYTHING I just said, however they are built in Indiana which means giving jobs to people here instead of just money going to those that don't ever use it here. Plus it's a Subaru. I really REALLY like the Baja which is such an ugly car. But it's like a English Bulldog... So ugly it's cute!

The Baja looks pretty cool to me.. I always loved the old Brat though, even when all my friends made fun of me about it.. Riding in the rear facing seats in the bed was a rush.. They are kind of like a baby El Camino.. I never worked on too many Subaru's.. but I have seen a lot of them with 180K+ miles on the tach.. I don't think it is a bad choice at all. I was always V8 big body cars and trucks, but after riding nothing but motorcycles for 4 years I changed to liking smaller, more maneuverable cars. I had a civic hatchback for years and a Mazda B2000 for a long time before that.. The Brat looks pretty cool, need to test drive one and see how it fits.. and post some pics when you do :)

That is freaking awesome man, you do better work than some "professionals" I have seen in the past... maybe get an orange account and start selling custom Avatars and Sig's? :) I am only half way joking, other forums I have been on in the past, mostly gaming forums, had people that would sell custom work..

Haha, just noticed that the hydraulic is extended, and his jaw is shut. Fixed it:

Not gonna do anything with it. It was just to see if I could do it.

Thanks Lee.

A week ago we were getting temps below zero at night and were recovering from a blizzard that hit us on Monday.........today its absolutely gorgeous, 50 degrees, and most of the 17" of snow we got is gone. Tomorrow we are forecast for mid to high 60's. I'll take it and cross my fingers that spring stays sprung!!

Cbear, that sucks about the car! Hopefully they get you fixed up quickly. Are you looking at a Subaru just to rent, or to buy? I've never even driven one, but really like the looks of a lot of them and the AWD would be nice in the snow and ice.

It amuses me that typing out Trip-A takes longer than just typing AAA. :D
If I only did things that were easy and quick I would have stayed with my ex! :-P

One of my favorite transmissions is the Volkswagen where you have to press in and pull all the way to the left to get into reverse. It's nice cause you can't accidentally "overshift" and go into reverse like with a lot of standard gate transmissions. I had a buddy that was used to a 6-speed bought a 5 speed forgot it was a 5 speed and on the highway at 75mph threw it into reverse. That was a lesson that he didn't soon forget!

The boxer 4 engine is great, it really does purr nicely. Granted I do love the growl of a V8, I've really enjoyed having that mid-range of the V6.

I'd be looking to buy. I've driven a couple of them: Impreza, WRX, STI, and Legacy. They are all nice vehicles.

They were supposed to be coming out to tow my car to the shop, the insurance agency called about an hour ago and said with the transmission damage and frame damage they are going to come do an onsite estimate (usually to me this means totalled).

However I just picked up my rental... I don't know WHO was smoking WHAT when they decided to give me this rental but they did...

That'll buff out

Came right off with the hose actually.

Well, in a year or so I may be living in Tacoma...

Was up in Seattle once. Not a terrible place. Seahawks fans are at least as bad as Broncos fans, if not worse. Check out Beth's Cafe.

Is that a knob for the transmission?

Is that a knob for the transmission?

That is the most absurd thing I've ever seen.
I would be SO INCREDIBLY ASHAMED to own that. COMPLETE AMERICAN CAR FAIL. (--Chevy Owner)

CBear, I totally agree with you about the position of reverse. Volvos and Saabs are (were) the same way, and it makes tons of sense. You start at zero and increase forward gearing to the right or increase rear gearing to the left. SImple simple, and no accidents.

apparently my forum handle is also the name of a female wrestler.
she and I are not the same person, but I will forgive you if you thought I had those abs and kicked that much ass.
