Snark Will Tear Us Apart

You get that thing I sent you ? ...lol
Evan, I told you, I don't want your gonorrhea...

so...I got the knives I sent to Peters back from HT on Saturday, and since mom was still at home till today I got busy and finished my first kitchen knife, made out of AEB-L for her, my Christmas present. There was a mix-up and I got sent a knife I didn't make but I straightened it out with Brad today, he located my missing knife and after he gets both and sends back my knife he said I will get a good deal on my next batch, so I need to order more steel!

Anyway, mom used her knife to prepare yesterday's stew (puertorrican sancocho, a favorite) and declared the knife as competent...but said my small Calphalon Katana was sharper. I explained to her that the Katana, being half the thickness of the one I made would always slice better, but I decided to raise the secondary a couple millimeters. After carefully sharpening with diamond pads and finishing with the strop I kept fiddling with it for a while, but mom was done cooking so no more real testing for the day. I was lying in bed talking to a friend on the phone and took my attention off the lil bugger...and it slipped from my thumb/forefinger grip while still being held by the pinky. The tip swung down like a pendulum and made contact with my right cheek. I didn't feel any pain, but when I put my hand to the cheek it felt warm. By the time I reached the bathroom I had drops of blood on my chest from a trickle running down my cheek.

On the positive side, I don't think it will leave a mark, it was a very clean slice and not deep, about half inch long...and it's sharpness has been proved :D I told mom not to baby it and use as often as she can. Here's the culprit, before the re-profiling and Iñigo Montoya-style retribution:

That is pretty cool. I don't know Brad that well, but from what I've heard he's a stand-up guy. Pretty sweet knife too. Handle looks a bit funky but that isn't bad!

a couple 2RU SAS servers and one SATA/SAS JBOD array (24 drive slots??). All SuperMirco. I'll get the second array on the 2015 budget. The idea is to make 'em hot spare hosts by duplicated interfaces and configuration, but with different arrays - just plug and serve. Need a ton of storage for the video production team, and less for scientific data. All that stuff will be used on the LAN as file servers and configured read-only to the application servers for external services. I've already got unified authentication on the LAN with VPN, workstations and virtual servers sharing storage (this will be the upgrade). This is the first actual hardware I've bought for intranet services... the rest has all been re-tasked from other stuff. And there was zero when I started. So it's pretty cheap and time to invest in hardware if you ask me! Next: external partner authentication, development environment for shipboard services &vehicle computers, and some sort of authorization tie-in for the data/video external services. That's the fantasy for the shore side, anyway.

You sound extremely competent in your field. Can you help me connect my iPad to my WiFi? I'll pay with beer. :D

I asked mom, and she chose those colors. From fondling it before the slice, it felt good in hand tho I could have done a more gradual curve to the swell, I kinda rushed it so mom could take it with her back home today. On the first shot there seems to be a "wrinkle" on the flat but it most be a reflection, the grinds came out pretty good and flat. And from all the excellent feedback, yeah, looks like Brad is a real stand-up guy, very satisfied at how fast was his communication and even faster to locate the missing blade.

I say we deploy daizee to hack and take down the Razor, Scissors, and Grooming subforum. Just to flex our muscles a little and make the other subforums aware of our (well... his) skillz. :p

Yep Brad is awesome. This time of year gets pretty crazy for them but he does a great job of getting things done and fixing any issues that come up.

They accidentally sent my box to the wrong address and put the wrong amount of insurance on it. But we got it straightened out in 1 day and he didnt charge me for the shipping costs.

Stuff happens, but they are right there to get issues corrected in a timely manner and are great to talk to. Excellent work and customer service.

Anyone up for a challenge?
I'd like to know if a BK17 will fit in a BK16 Kydex sheath...

Going camping with the woman tomorrow. She didn't really want to go all summer, but now that it's going to be a low of 16° she's all in.

Got this very generous gift for Christmas, today was the first time I've felt like getting outside to even take a picture. Anybody recognize it? Just curious.

that's looks like something i should own someday

You were'nt the only interested party. Lol
Me and at least one other Beckerhead were looking pretty hard.
Congrats! The Yuma looks like an excellent knife!
I got really lucky, I still have a little money left over from Christmas so as soon as I saw his post I contacted him.

Although this means I may no longer be getting a H&B forge hawk :(

Who's kydex are we talking about?

Let's have some real fun and deploy him to take out the Hunt one. Those scallywags have this air about them, all smug and handmade...

Cool day at work today, I went out to my other shop today, (that is housed right in the middle of my buddies trucking company) I made some brackets for him, then he asked me what I had going on the rest of the day, nothing was the answer, kinda taking a breather till the new year. So he says, lets piddle with my old Ford. Well, this excited me. A while back he bought a 1949 ford F750. It was at one time a fire truck, it only has 8500 original miles on it and not one bit of rust. The damn thing is cherry, he just never decided what he wanted to do with it. The thought was to put a fifth wheel on it and haul on a flat bed of that era correct, which he has, and tote around his antique 1944 farm all tractor to the local antique shows. Anyway, it hasnt even been started for best we can figure, between 15 to 20 years, today, we purged the tank, drained and replaced all the fluids, refilled the tank, replaced the carb springs, installed a new 8 volt battery, and after a can of starting fluid and some patience, got her started, to our suprise, it still had clutch pedal and idled well, so we drove it out of its hole and took it outside to wash the 20 year old bird shit off of it. Pretty cool day today! Here it is rolling under its own power in probably 20 years. Cool thing to be a part of.

This is me filming on my cell phone.

Random pics of the first wash job in many years.

I gotta tell you, it amazes me that I get paid for this stuff. So glad I took the leap of faith and quite my job that made me miserable.

Oh, and I forgot to mention, it has a flathead V8 in it. Really cool!
