Cool day at work today, I went out to my other shop today, (that is housed right in the middle of my buddies trucking company) I made some brackets for him, then he asked me what I had going on the rest of the day, nothing was the answer, kinda taking a breather till the new year. So he says, lets piddle with my old Ford. Well, this excited me. A while back he bought a 1949 ford F750. It was at one time a fire truck, it only has 8500 original miles on it and not one bit of rust. The damn thing is cherry, he just never decided what he wanted to do with it. The thought was to put a fifth wheel on it and haul on a flat bed of that era correct, which he has, and tote around his antique 1944 farm all tractor to the local antique shows. Anyway, it hasnt even been started for best we can figure, between 15 to 20 years, today, we purged the tank, drained and replaced all the fluids, refilled the tank, replaced the carb springs, installed a new 8 volt battery, and after a can of starting fluid and some patience, got her started, to our suprise, it still had clutch pedal and idled well, so we drove it out of its hole and took it outside to wash the 20 year old bird shit off of it. Pretty cool day today! Here it is rolling under its own power in probably 20 years. Cool thing to be a part of.
This is me filming on my cell phone.
Random pics of the first wash job in many years.
I gotta tell you, it amazes me that I get paid for this stuff. So glad I took the leap of faith and quite my job that made me miserable.
Oh, and I forgot to mention, it has a flathead V8 in it. Really cool!
That truck looks beautiful. I love the older ones like that. The paint job appears to be in excellent condition. Do you know if it was a factory original "fire engine red" or was it repainted that color later? If it's 65 y.o. original paint, it'sin REALLY good shape.
This looks safe, smart too.

Looks like something i may of tried as a kid. Me and my brother took our bb guns when we were kids and rolled up paper cones to a point. Then we would drop a live 9mm/22lr/ or whatever rounds we could get right into the point of the paper cone. Then slide the paper cone over the barrel of our BB guns and shoot. The BB would hit the primer of the live round and BOOM!
So stupid. And crazy dangerous. Sometimes the bullet would come out the tube straight up, or at an angle... It was retarded. But we thought we were geniuses for figuring it out![]()
Dang it WW, you made it sound so cool im going to have to go try it.
On a completely unrelated note, whats your contact info, not for me but for my lawe... Er, uh, friends![]()
You sound extremely competent in your field. Can you help me connect my iPad to my WiFi? I'll pay with beer.![]()
I say we deploy daizee to hack and take down the Razor, Scissors, and Grooming subforum. Just to flex our muscles a little and make the other subforums aware of our (well... his) skillz.![]()
You wanna pick a fight with the mansies? I hear they will do shameful things to your beard in your sleep.
Yeah, I'm not shittin you, everything here is 100% original. Even the stripe, since it was a fire truck, it is/was gold leaf. There is nothing on this truck other than the new battery we put in it today that is not 1949 ford. That's what so cool about it. They obviously don't make them like they used to. Hasn't been started in 15 to 20 years and we drove it today. I've been begging bossman to do something with it since It's basically setting in the middle of my new shop. For some reason, today he decided to listen to me, and we had some fun getting it going today.
As far as the paint, I think the pics do it justice, it is faded badly, the pics you see of it above is with it being wet from the wash job. It is in great shape for as old as is is, but it is indeed a 60 year old non touched truck.
Fun stuff, indeed! It is a real cool thing to be a part of. The good news is that no matter if it's one vehicle or 20, that excitement doesn't go away. She looks like she is in awesome shape as well.Cool day at work today....
