True, but if they're 5x more expensive then it's still pricier to down a 6 craft brews than 12 cheap crappies.

I'd rather eat my money, dry, than drink cheap crappies. If drunk is all that's needed, some hard liquor will do. I've always thought that cheap beer is the worst answer to the alcohol/taste optimization. It tastes bad, has no punch, and if you want a serious effect, you need to consume a ton of calories. Good beer is about $1.50-2.00ea (from the store). That's pretty cheap luxury unless you've got a drinking problem. I dunno. It's just not where I choose to economize. As Opus said: "To each his dentifrice."

i hate computers. i bought an external DVD drive for my PC in order to watch movies, it turns out that microsofts media player wont play them so i ended up wasting almost an hour trying to get it to work. finally i downloaded a third party player that seems to do the job

Sounds like you hate Microsoft, not computers. Be precise, like a computer. :D

it has more to do with the fact i have absolutely no idea what im doing when it comes to this stuff. i know how to turn it on, and use the internet. thats about it

I am with Daizee here. I am too old to drink crappy booze.

Agreed, where I live, we have seen an explosion of craft breweries. The crap beer has completely become a thing of the past for most people I know. I can't remember the last time I've seen a Bud, Miller, or Coors in any of my friend's fridges.

Ehhh. I drink cheap beer and am not ashamed to admit it. In fact, I'm drinking a Miller Lite right now.:D

But I also drink higher dollar tastier brews.

I just seem to keep coming back to cheap stuff, especially in the warmer months. Must be my unsophisticated upbringing.:p

Nostalgia is a valid reason to be drinking cheap beer: if you associate it with good times in the past you'll continue to do so in the present. As long as you don't consider it to be great beer taste-wise.

Beers like shandies and hefeweisens and summer ales are meant to be drunk in hot weather for refreshment and there are plenty of high-quality variants of such beers, so drinking crappy beer for the sake of refreshment isn't a very good reason.

Craft breweries can heavy on the IPAs and darker ales, which many beer drinkers have a hard time stomaching, but there are still plenty of lighter beers out there for anybody to drink.

I have yet to see lite beers get brought out at any party I've been to, the lowest it's gotten is Budweiser, Rainier and PBR. Those are good party beers for how cheap a 24-pack is, but I wouldn't drink them anywhere but at a party. Everybody who drinks those at a party (that I know, at least) drinks nicer beers than that outside of a party.

Drinking crappy beer for the sake of refreshment is a perfectly valid reason. And what one person finds satisfying has nothing to do with what the next person likes.

I am perfectly content with drinking cheap stuff, especially now that I am a broke college student again. That being said, I have a bomber of Dragon's Milk and a couple Belgian Ales in the fridge waiting for an appropriate occasion.

I like beer. Even if some folks don't consider the cheap stuff fit to drink.

That's fine. 'Merica is about choices.

I didn't say it was an invalid reason, just not a very good one. I find that I'd rather go without beer altogether than buy cheap beer for the sake of saving money, and I'm also a broke college student. No sense in drinking beer that doesn't taste good and spending money to do so, when you could not drink cheap beer half the time and spend a bit more on quality brews.

You have every right to drink what you want to drink, just don't get up in arms when someone points you towards better options ;)

It's the same thing with everything. I know plenty of people who prefer the taste of cheap beer over the expensive craft stuff. It's no different then preferring sirloin over ribeye or beckers over busse's. Everyone has their own tastes, and just because it's supposed to be better doesn't always mean it is

Wise words glasshoppa

Evil Twin brewing "Fire Water Pale Ale" -- not a fan.
SWMBO and I were trying to split a bomber of it -- I am using the leftovers (i.e. the half we weren't willing to attempt drinking) to make whole wheat/Rye bread.

Tonight I'm drinking Bookers... It's NOT cheap, or bad.

respect.

re: upbringing
my parents' standard beer when I was a kid was Ballantine Ale. Never had it as an adult, but the logo always makes me think of pretzels. Also, my dad probably always drank it with pretzels.
