At the risk of starting a war, I would not go with a Jeep liberty if you want a Jeep. The liberty, and the compass should be a Pontiac product not a Jeep product. That and the lack of a real frame with the unibody construction.

The last time I was checking out Jeep Jamborees, Jeep themselves said that the Liberty was not recommended for their events. But it depends on what you want to do with it. Just drive on the street? yeah it should be fine. Drive offroad, lift it and add bigger tires? Plan on having to upgrade the axles and lower the gearing. That isn't cheap.

The pictures of the Jeep Liberty above is heavily modded and customized. Can you do it? Yes. Is it cheaper to buy a decent Wrangler and do half the upgrades and have a better machine? Yes.

From what I've heard and seen you're right. Jeep (Chrysler really) did too much to bring family type vehicles to the off roading crowd. I'm down for making everyone feel welcome, but watering down your product line to achieve the most profit is never good.

Yeah, I knew they were pretty heavily modded. Probably too small for me anywhos. Gas mileage sucks too, from what I read. 15mpg in town, 20mpg highway. I would love to have a Wrangler, but to me, it seems more like a toy. Doesn't seem very practical. Can't haul much, etc.

Your right. I always tell people that you don't buy a Jeep for the gas mileage. Your also right that it can't haul much or have a lot of cargo room. With Amanda, Becker and I in the Rubi there isn't much room for bulky items. When we travel with gear we load the back about halfway and then put Becker's bed on top and he rides in style. You can also get a rack that goes in a 2'' receiver that adds more ability to carry stuff.

In the woods I love it. Even though my Rubi is stock I can still go in more places that the big trucks can't go. I like being able to drive around them when they are having trouble picking a line with their long wheelbase. They can keep the deep mud, That isn't what I use mine for. I'll be back were they can't fit and catch the fish while they are trying to get a skidder to pull them out of a place they shouldn't have been in the first place.

In on ......5?

Murph are you doing a GoRuck?

Just got an opinel #8 from my dad. Not a bad little knife.

Crapping in a ziplock bag is how I met my wife.

Hell, my 6cyl F150 gets about 15 per gallon, so I doubt a Jeep would be much worse, haha. The thing is now....the cabin. Being able to haul stuff there, etc. So far, we've just taken the wife's car, because it's way cheaper on gas. 15mpg vs 27 per gallon.

My Jeep is about that, maybe a little better on gas. Your truck is much better suited for what you want to do. If you want a toy some of the new side by sides are very Jeep like and even do better on some aspects of off roading. Sometimes I think about trading in my Jeep for something better on gas and get a side by side.

Wranglers are luxury vehicles, not utility vehicles - unless you have some VERY SPECIFIC needs. And by 'luxury' I mean something not very useful by almost any measure that costs a lot of money. Maybe they're good for picking up girls at the beach, I dunno.
If you're mostly a road driver, it's entirely an expensive, impractical toy, IMO (I've had two). On the open road they are noisy, hot, cold, inefficient, and aggravating when caught in the rain with the top down. In town they're fantastic: nimble, torquey, good visibility, and easy to park. But man, you could get those features in a quality compact for less money and way less TCO. And there's a shocking amount of cabin space in a Mini, for example. On the highway? Bleh.

Just crushed a peanut butter milkshake.

I wish everyone would quit buying them so I could afford a nice used 4 door Rubicon

Snark has been flying at warp speed today! Well I'm in on ..... 5?
I'll get caught up then jump in.

I'd love to! Unfortunately I'd be a disgrace if I showed up at the one in Cleveland or Louisville, they're way too soon for me to be ready.

I really like the rubicon but my favorites are the old CJ models, my dad has a cj7 that we are fixing up and I absolutely love that thing

i am amused that my station wagon is awd, at base, can tow class II, and people have figured out ways to do class III. has 8.5 inch of ground clearance, and 1/2 speed for hills while towing a boat/etc up OR down. plus a few more things. beats a lot of pickup trucks, but remains a luxury vehicle. not too shabby.

for everyday, i know what i want.

gimme studded snows, and it's a demon on ice and snow or mud. or lava.

it's made from chuck norris's spit :D

They lifted the ban this morning and said everything is fine and as long as you have used your system.since.Friday (which we havent) flushing the system isnt necessary. And if you havent used your water since Friday, run all faucets for 30mins (15 cold and 15 hot but there have been conflicting info as to which should be first; hot then cold or cold then hot)--and the kicker is not only are.they not going to prorate our bills for the 3 days of unusage and the 30 minutes of flushing (which will be a significant amount of water usage) they are actually going to raise our rates so they have money to "fix" what they screwed up in the first place.....
They still have not released the data. There is tons of ambiguity going on. The health department is saying no one got sick at all but 1 of our 4 large hospitals (we have around 6 or 7 decent sized hospitals in the area) is saying they treated 26 adults and 16 children....

My family will not be consuming this water for at least the rest of the week to see how this all plays out. I'm also gonna hold off on bathing the kids in it...I'll take them to my dads house.

So I am back at home. I call the department of public utilities and ask their recommendation for what to do since I have been out of town since the start of the ban. He said my system needs to be flushed. Run the hot in every faucet for 15 minutes to drain the water tank, then run cold for 5 to flush everything else. I ran the hot for 27 minutes just to be safe (both kitchen and bathroom sinks, tub and washing machine)...then I ran the cold water for 20 to be safe. The third time filling my washer and this is what rhe the water looked like.......I'm calling bullshit
