Anybody got exciting plans for the weekend or is everyone still in Gathering recovery mode?
Got a bonfire/Chili cookoff tomorrow night, then the zoo with the babies Sunday. Might camp out Saturday night dependent on how the weather is. It might just be fun to kick it in the hammock with the babies.

Doing another overnighter at the cabin tomorrow night. My brother is coming with me this time. Should be fun.
I promise this time I will not buzz you! Although if you and your brother want to stop by you're more than welcome. As you see you go right by my place! (Or if the weather turns to s(...)t and you need somewhere to warm up/shower.)

Dunno yet. The Magua and vik Farmer are a given pair, but other than that I might have to flip a coin or something.... Could be a toss up between the trusty BK16 or the entirely underused ESEE 3.
I vote both. God gave you two hands, keep some steel in both of them!

In the works,

Ok, damn you sir! That campfire one turned out better than I had expected... I guess I will have to get in on this.

In other news... I went and had to take a piss test today, and got the job offer. It's $19/hr less than I made as an Independent Contractor but it's a full 40 hours instead of 10-15 hours a week... So I dunno... I haven't worked a 40 hour work week ongoing in almost 15 years. This is going to be weird.

day 1 of the midwest bladesmithing symposium down - set up, meet & greet, pulled pork and phenomenal baked beans dinner, check!
tomorrow classes on turkish damascus, fancy damascus, and tomakawk forging.
sunday tomahawk forging part 2 and then I have to go to work for a few hours and write annual evals........

Very cool!

Yuck!

That sounds awesome Vik!

Especially the tomahawk forging, that would be great to learn.

the hawk forging is the reason I wanted to go to this thing -- the rest is gravy.
(I also forgot to mention the class on metallurgy at the forge)

damn if there isn't a SILKY big boy saw 1/2 price off on "that river store".

$44 seems like a good deal.

not that i'm spotting exactly.

you just have to like "yellow"

710 - the hats look great! I got my order in already and can't wait to see it in person.
CBear - I hope you have a great time at the bonfire/chili cook off just don't eat any chili with beans. Beans don't belong in chili!
Erik - I've seen the pics of you swinging a hammer at the Gathering. I hope the guys at the b/s ' ing symposium are ready for you. :D

In other news, we're getting our first taste of fall weather here. It's about 54* outside right now and supposed to get down to 49* by 7am. I love this time of the year!!!

Sez you... I know this is a common point of contention among chili aficionados, especially you Texas boys. But, really, chili without beans is meat sauce. Get over it

heh heh

Of course, as always, eat it however you like it..

Doc

Had some kind of flu yesterday... better now. If all goes well I plan on doing some work in the garden and drinking that growler Guyon gave me last weekend. That's about it for exciting major plans.

We had Friday off from school this weekend, that was fun, mostly because my dad is currently working out of state this weekend, and my mom is in MI to see her mom. That leaves us kids home alone for 3 WHOLE days! It's amazing what one can accomplish with 24 extra hours. I am really starting to learn the value of time now, due to being in public school.

Do you guys suppose that acorns would be any good? I read a while ago that you can eat them if you boil them a few times, because they have mildly toxic tanic acid in them. I think I'm going to try boiling them twice in a change of water, and roasting them. Then I'll crack the shells and smash them up, that may make either a kind of flour, or something I can stick in stew to thicken it. I'll try both. (don't worry, I'l do some reading.:p)

I'm not 100% sure MM, but I think you're on the right track. We have a boatload of acorns in our yard, I should probably figure out something to do with them too.

If nothing else you could always pile 'em up wherever you want to attract deer or squirrels.

Mornin' fellas. Just crawled out of bed after my first night on a cpap machine. Had a helluva time getting to sleep, but I actually slept pretty well once I did and only woke up a few times. It was weird to actually be able to sleep well on my back.

How has everyone been? I haven't been able to keep up for the last 2 or 3 snark threads.

I used MacLeid's Rockcastle Chili recipe... I'm pretty sure it will be good. Of course I also have the cheesy grits!

I eat chili whenever it's put in front of me, as long as it has two things... Beef and Spice.

Got the BCG for my M4gery in yesterday, now I just need to swap the carry handle for a BUIS and get a RDS and a light/mount. Then I just need to finish my AK's, my 336w, my other AR15, my Mossberg 500, the 1911, build my other stripped lower...
