Snarking after the gathering CHAT

I traded for this one and it came with a Kydex sheath. Now I can't complain about how bad the sheath is.

I do want to see if I can attach a belt clip to it and wear it horizontal, though.

You'll soon need to build an extra room just to store your knives!

NO. not for awhile. I dont wanna repeat that debacle anytime soon! Maybe if I had a red velvet cake to photograph it would be worth taking another group pic...

I use a tool bag to store them. Now I also have to use a rubbermade tote, It's ridiculous, but most of them are for ''business'' so I have an excuse ;)
 
Nice haul Thrill. I carried a RAT Model 1 for years before I got my Spyderco! It's a helluva knife for the $$. In fact, I should pull mine back out and put it back into rotation...

That's the RAT Model 1, made by Ontario... Pretty robust folder for under $40. I've had a black handled one for years. Totally trustworthy folder!
 
yup. rat1. I like it so far, very sturdy...dang fast blade-flick..very smooth.

I guessed at $40.00 it was made elsewhere. I edc a crkt vertex and use the heck out of it every day. It has been a test for me to see how the foreign stuff would hold up. Plus the price of US made makes me shy to use outright!

It's nice, it aint so much quality that concerns me about the stamp, I just prefer to buy American when I can. It was a trade tho, I turned the Benchmade I didn't like into that Rat and KaBar 1217. So I'm happy and he's happy, good trade IMO.

I aint decided if I'm gonna keep the Rat1 or not. If I do Im gonna mod that sucka LOL, Im just flicking it open and fondling it now... I want to keep it LNIB until I know if I'm keeping it. I do like it, and people who have used them seem to like theirs, so I'm up in the air.
 
Picked up one of those "old school" kiwi knives. I actually like it a lot. It came razor sharp and it's fun to flip open. Not bad for 15 bucks. Throws sparks off a firesteel like a flamethrower.

One of the Svords is on my list, Looks like a fun design, and heck it's under 20 bucks. Looks nice Trade, I like the blade finishes on them.
 
Yeah, the Taiwan stamp in the RAT1 used to bother me, but really, it doesn't say China, so it's not so bad. It'd be nice if we could make them in the USA and still get them for ~$30, but the realities of running a factory here kind of negate pricing like that. Of course, when the Izula folder comes out next year with the USA stamp, it'll be darn near irresistible!

I would pay 60-80 for a Rat1 with USA stamp. I like the knife tho...it's just a matter of personal feeling...I feel better with a US knife in my pocket, not a reflection of my distrust of it's quality, just a quirk of mine. I really like it though, Im thinking it needs some mycarta scales...or some sort of mods

Ultimately this is why I went with Spyderco...not only US made, but also made in Colorado! But still, I'm pulling out the RAT, running the edge across the belt sander, and putting it back into rotation. It really is an awesome folder and seeing yours has made me miss it...

u do that, I have an idea for kydex on the Rat, I'll throw a sample in with your package. (if my idea works LOL)
