but mtn bike shorts aren't even spandex-related, at least not the visible part (the chamois is, but that's the under-portion of the whole setup).

Ok, nice tidbit of info there. You can tell I don't know anything about the biking scene! I always thought all bikers wore spandex...:D

mtn bikers are a strange blend of day hiker and skateboarder, spandex in the woods is almost treasonous.

My BIL has been putting his new prosthetic through shake downs for a week or two now.

It's been a tough half year leading up to this. With his love for adventure, I am hopeful he can comeback as full speed as he wants to.

60 pounds is close to half of you!
(and your loaded weight was still less than me unloaded... :()

LOL! Yeah, this is about average. At more remote areas the pack has swollen to about 80 lbs (often more) – my knees have not still recovered! (I'm 5'6" tall and weigh between 142 - 152 lbs.) Getting old suks as – I'm 50 and wish I was 36!

I'm down to 252 - and a few months older than you. :p
my knees always hurt. :(

gmoneyluv gmoneyluv I dont know if you remember my attempt last year at the Devils Path climb/hike. I made 5 of the 7 3500-4000ft peaks and 12.5 miles. And that was it. I was to beat up to climb the second half. This winter I have been climbing short 6-10 mile scrambles and working out like crazy. If im moving I have atleast 50lbs on my back. I know what the Devil has in store for my one legged 54 year old Ass!!!! Lol June 2nd im attempting the 25.5 mile 2 day climb again. But Im 20lbs lighter. BMI went from 28 to 15 probally a bit towards 12. My legs are tree trunks now lol. This weekend Im climbing/hiking the stairway to heaven. 15 mile as a practice run. Thats the same climb I tried in February but got caught in a Noreaster and spent the night in a rock depression/cave Widow makers made it to dangerous. So the next morn I bailed at 10 miles. Keep climbing and training hard Brother endurance is what gets you to the summit.
