I always had a dog as a kid, but as I got older, I guess I didn't want the responsibility, haha. I've always said that I would have a dog if I moved out into the country though.
They are for sure a big responsibility. The larger the dog the bigger the responsibility too. Neko is easy. Battle is not. Lycan will be even bigger of a responsibility. There's times I don't go on family trips because someone needs to be home, especially with a puppy... When we all go out it has to be pre planned, normally a month or more in advance, and the dogs must be boarded.
I had to explain to my friends and family to not just come over unannounced, and never ever just open my door without knocking. Battle quickly goes from sweetheart to guardian when someone comes into my yard... And Lycan will easily be 140-150 pounds when he is grown. He can hurt you without even trying. Cane corsos are a true protection breed and have one of the strongest bite forces out of most any canine. And they are considered one of the most athletic breeds of Mastiffs. They are not couch potatoes. Battle can clear a 4 foot fence without a running start. He jumps into my truck bed from the side without issue. He can knock someone down just playing with you.
It's a huge responsibility and they are far from cheap to keep and raise properly. Most properly bred puppies are 2 Grand or more. And that's just to start, the vet bills are higher for big dogs, they need more food, bigger crates, bigger fences, bigger everything. Bigger cost more. And because of their potential to hurt someone, even accidently, training and socializing is not only recommended, it's required. Some home insurances won't even allow them, some charge a higher premium... It all adds up.
I'm a moderator on a corso board and nearly everyday I have to explain to people why I don't think corsos are the breed for most people. They don't like hearing it but all too often they are coming from owning dogs like Chihuahua, Frenchies, and even labs... Huge difference. And I see so many end up rehoming their dog when it gets bigger, or starts showing its protective instincts. It's not if they will be protective... It's when! You have to be prepared and really be committed.

Wow... Didn't realize I was writing so much

I'm pretty passionate about dogs.
TL;dr .... I'll summarize lol
Huge responsibility! But I Love them like crazy. Wouldn't trade them for anything. Honest, loyal, loving without judgment. Can't say the same for most people. Worth every penny and every minute!
