PART OF THE PUT UP OR SHUT UP CAMPAIGN

Ok all you seasoned snow molesters out there. This is the Snow Challenge thread for 2009-2010.

Post your best natural or improvised material Snow Shelter or cold weather that you have constructed (FROM THIS POINT IN DECEMBER ON, IT CAN'T BE AN OLD ONE) and the moderators and a few others will vote on the best one. You must spend one night in it.

It should be at least in the teens when you sleep in it.


The prize is a surprise and will be announced once the goody bag is made, but you can bet your butt it will be cool and sharp, and more than one.

I'm thinking that twenty-four hours from now, you and I are going to be having a lot of the practice materials on the ground. :D
 
Oooh 1st storm of the season is hitting this weekend. Perfect timing. Not that I have any time for that this week. I can't wait for the holidays to be over.....
 
Arrr matey, me likes the idea....until April 30th.
 
Although it looks like fun, I don't think that those of us in places like San Diego will be able to participate. Curses, foiled again.
 
I'm in Maryland near southern Pa. If this thread had come up a week ago then I would have been cursing that it's not gonna snow here any time soon. I turned on the weather channel this morning and saw that we're gonna get 12-18 inches in the next two days. I know that can't compete with the more northern guys but thats pretty decent here for Dec.

Joe, does the shelter have to be constructed of snow or just made in a way to keep you warm in a snow storm?
 
Is alcohol allowed. I once had to drag a drunken neighbor into his house when I found him passed out in the snowbank. It was below zero, and he didn't seem to mind.
 
I am TOTALLY in on this. I will have 12 days in the Northwoods of Wisconsin this coming holiday. If it gets in the teens in the day, I will be lucky. It will be a GOOD deal colder than that at night. :D

I should buy a thermometer for "proof" pics when I catch me a night sleep in it...

Its snowing cats and dogs right now out here
 
I did want to add, if I piss my wife off during that time, I may find myself in it for more than one night. I better make it a good one. :D

Yeah right. We have absolutely no snow on the ground whatsoever. :mad:

TwinBlade has a great idea - there should be at least one thermometer shot to eliminate guys like dawsonbob who claim they are winter camping! :rolleyes: :D

A Shelter is just that whether it’s a car or a cardboard box it’s to keep you from the Elements
Have used the card board to insulate my feet, block the wind and the {hated New York Times} news print to wrap around my chest to block the wind and insulate my chest and a box makes a comfy shelter ….did’nt you do that as a child?
Use any thing That will work to your advantage.
 
Can you make this a sticky please? I'd like to keep this on the front page so I stay focused and updated on the progress. I really think this is a great idea. Looking forward to trying it myself and following along as others progress. Thanks Joe, All our moderators and BF for putting this on.

Hey, Doc, that's unkind. I'll have you know that it was only 76 here today. If that's not winter camping, then what is?

I wish we had that much reliable water here :D

Unfortunately, I'll have to dip out of this one as we don't get enough snow where I live to be able to participate :thumbdn:

And besides, December is summer time over here :thumbup:

We had a light skiff of snow the other day, but got a warming trend and it all melted
today.
Crazy weather. -20C on Monday, and today on Friday it was +5C.
Couple of questions.
If no snow, it can be anything as long as it keeps the elements out?
Has to get to at least the teen's F. Do we have to take a pic with a thermometer
to prove it?
