Snow Shelter Challenge 09-10

Not tonight in ND. It is going to be - 30 tonght with a 20 MPH wind. I don't even want to know what the chill factor will be.:grumpy:

I just looked it up, -50 chill factor. takes about 45 seconds to frost bite your skin.

I saw that weather in your neck of the woods last night on TV. We got hit with 11 inches of snow (Fine with me, I love the stuff) but we also have a tropical heat wave compared to what you are going through at around 18 degrees...

Best cold weather shelter ever

:D

Now, that was great, dougo. Just great.

I have high hopes of building a snow house this weekend. I,ve wanted to winter camp for a few years, but life has got in the way. Can't get anyone to play with me either.
I'll just have to go it alone,, again.

Hey...I have lived in my snow shelter for 26 years now. Works great! :D

I don't know. I was up in Wichita Falls at Shepard AFB and I remember some pretty wicked cold days with ice storms...;)

Well I totally didn't get the chance to make/sleep in a shelter this week like I had hoped--I had WAY less time than I had expected. I guess I won't be freezing my butt off after all. :o :p

I didn't get to camp that night and now there is a heat wave comin. 30 dgs. is to much fer me! I just hope the shelter lasts till the weekend.

The way the cold has headed south, Codger might get an entry in.

Thanks. The fact that it was a 3/4 mile walk back in and had to shovel alone, i idn't go back with my gear to sleep.

It will happen, but first your state will recieve Island status:thumbup:

:D

That could happen. That other place far below might freeze over first, though.:D It actually did snow here, briefly, in 1967, but it didn't stick, of course.

Actually, according to this article, it really might happen again for a lot of areas that don't get snow now. http://www.foxnews.com/scitech/2010/01/11/years-global-cooling-coming-say-leading-scientists/

I really would like to visit an area with a lot of snow, and build a shelter. It would be a lot of fun: then I could come home where it's warm.

Excellent shelter and pictures Kent!

I got enough snow to make an igloo for a G.I. Joe, but that is all.

We've been having unnaturally cold weather the past few weeks. Today was the first day above freezing in some time. I recorded a record low of 18 degrees in my bedroom early one morning. No, being survival minded, I wasn't sleeping in there, I've been camped out in my living room carefully doling out a minimum of heat to the areas of the house with plumbing.

It has been down below ten degrees outside frequently. But I digresss... I am still working on winter survival here. Unlike my Northern brethren, I don't revel in winter weather. I am much more acclimated to our normal heat and humidity here in the South. Perhaps I'll do a contest/post on making summer shelter/surviving in temps of 100+F and over 80% humidity. THAT I can do! Heck, I'll even invite a few of my Canadian friends down to participate! Say, Doc.... :D
