Snowing Here & Your Carry Model

Doc, thanks. You don't get much winter there.?
Gedd, thanks. I think you got hit with more winter last year than us. So, you were due for less. I carried a 317 for sometime 5 years back and liked it. That one also has a 2 blade option and a lanyard hole. Some make a big deal about the flat grind these models have but I'm still trying to decide if that amounts to much. I like my 334's blade shapes and these other features. Also, I should tell you when I peened down the pivot pin on mine, using a 18 oz. hammer. I noticed the nickel stock was quite hard. It's
probably the same material on your 317. I doubt opening and closing it will wear it down. Or you'll ever put enough torque against it to break it. Which I did on a 1974 look a like knife with a XX. DM

Joe, so small a item,-- think nothing of it. Now, if you're not hollering for Big Red on the 26. We may have problems. :) DM

Going to be near 70 here today. I have my 112 on my belt and a BLW Bantam in my pocket. Doesn't feel like December and I'm not really liking it....

Buck Marksman 830 pic taken at intermission during the Portland Youth Ballet Christmas performance Sunday in the World Trade Center 2 (Portland, Oregon) showing the Willamette River (approaching flood stage) and Steel Bridge in the background)(six year old granddaughter performed with the troupe). Ships dock along this waterfront each year in June for the Rose Festival (as a child I was lucky enough to tour a diesel submarine, cut my finger and got the deluxe extended show thanks to the medic).

Desert Dave, do the high country critterswant to winter over in, under and around your homestead (snakes and such in the crawlspace)?

A Buck 112 is always on my jeans belt, usually the oak scaled 420HC Custom Shop that was a special gift from family. That's what I have now.

It used to snow about every ten years or so here in Sacramento, we're overdue for that part of a real Christmas.

As you can probably guess always carrying the 317 (sometimes sheath, sometimes pocket, prefer pocket). Unseasonably warm here in NH which makes deer season a drag. Like the chill and some snow for the deer season. Side note the eagle is airborne.

Bear, we're in a different weather pattern. A 112 is a nice size knife. Thanks.
Oregon, stunning photos. I've been to that bridge and that Will River carries a lot of water. The snakes don't come. We have trouble with rodents. They get everywhere, in storage buildings and the shop. Squirrels too. They are under the shop and in the storage buildings. Once while doing plumbing work under the house a ornate box tortoise came walking by, to say hello. Your 850 is a nice knife. Thanks, DM

Man it was in the upper 70s here last week hot and humid is all I know in south west ms ! Never have had to deal with ice and snow!! Wouldn't know how to act with yalls weather!! But I do love me some sharp stuff !!

Sutter, a custom 112 is a nice knife. Someone must like you. It's great to have friends.
gsea, I would have Never guessed you for a 317. As you rarely show that model in your collection. :) Flatlander is not far from you. When I looked up the word retro it had your picture beside it.
Thank you. We'll be looking. DM

Cox, thanks. I am very grateful to have made it home this evening. As I drove thru another arriving winter storm coming down from the North high country. Our road is now closed and trucks are plowing it. Being Safely home, a cup of hot coffee, my wife and a model 334. Plus, my bird dog are some great simple pleasures we too often take for granted. DM

Yes, on the Continental Divide. This could be why we get hit with storms. The moisture laden air pushes in from Calif., crosses Arizona and climbs up the divide, encountering the cold air mass. This causes the moisture to start freezing, it stalls and sits on top of us and dumps. My fruit trees don't make it. I have grown from seed probably the only Carpathian Walnut trees in our county. This tree is doing well here and seems to be more cold tolerant. He's correct, we do have bear and lions move through. Today I carried this one. DM

hi David
what model is this? this looks to be a favorite pattern/size of mine. looks like a trapper model of some sort. but, i love "barehead" folders. i don't think i've seen a buck like this before.

thanks much.

P.S. regarding weather, i would like 20's right now. waiting for my ski hill to open, and it was 56 today. oof.

VT, the knife is Buck's 334 Millennium Trapper. Here's the write up on post 11. http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/s...(12-12-2010)?highlight=334+Millennium+Trapper
A Camillus made jumbo Trapper. Mine was purchase at a show after they closed their doors and had a fire sale. You'll get some winter, it will just be late this year. Thanks, DM

great ski season last year.

sorry, i missed the link. thanks very much.

so, is this similar to the Camillus made model 10 jumbo trapper (american wildlife series)? looks it. either way, i love it. it's been added to the list! :)

thanks again.

You're welcome. I think it is similar to that and the Remington. They had this pattern. It has 420HC steel and takes a nice edge. I like the 2 blade shapes. Good luck on finding one. I don't think they were as pricey as the Remington knives. DM

DM, the 112 is probably my favorite size knife. As soon as the budget allows after the holidays, I'm going to be getting a 500. Your positive comments about the size and feel of it are a large contributor to that. We have a cold front on the way, which isn't really that cold. And the temps should be back in the 60s for x-mas. Bah humbug for that.....

We picked up just over 12 inches during the night and will probably get another 4 inches or so today. I think I will carry my 123 LakeMate with the spoon on the end. Maybe it will work as a snow shovel.

Bert

Bear, I hope you enjoy the 500 Duke. It can be carried in a front pocket or the sheath. It has classy lines and a handsome blade shape. We are in the El Nino weather pattern here. Which has to do with the flow of the Santa Anna winds which bring us moisture. It is 19* here this morning with several inches of fresh snow. Does the blade on your 112 measure 3 1/8"?
Bert, I like your sense of humor. You really got hit by this latest winter storm system. I think we will get more during the day. No wind right now which is a big help. Not much would move here if we got that much. I have my 334 in a sheath on front. I'll be shoveling today. Thank you, DM

I bought a snow preventer this year. So far it works. Supposed to cool off at the end of the week. May get a late deer hunt in down in KY. Carrying a 301 today.

DM, 3" from the front edge of the bolster. I really like sheath carry, which is another aspect of the 500 I'm looking forward to. I also like the drop point on my 389 canoe and I think I'll love the bigger version on the Duke.

Tony, thanks. I hope you get one. You planning to use your 301 on him?
Bear, I like the shape of my Duke. It is 3" as well. You can find this model in the upgrade steel. Thanks, DM
