So, how often do you cut yourself?

Not often...the last time I cut myself was late august.....14 stitches and a permanently smiling thumb later all is well...been a little more careful since.

It's funny this thread popped up when it did.I haven't cut myself in a very long time..EXCEPT,for yesterday.I was using my Case CV Peanut, went to close it, & it snapped shut right on my middle finger.Very little blood, mostly like a paper cut. Those Cases have some strong springs & that CV gets wicked sharp!

I cut myself last week on my new Mora 760--jabbed myself while trying to pry apart partially split wood and I had it in my hand. :o

Before that I can't remember the last time I so much as nicked myself. I think it was sometime early last summer. Never had a bad accident--(knock on wood)--They've all been minor to date.

i end up cutting myself pretty often. i have had 2 close calls where i could have lost my finger. both were really dumb mistakes though. typically, i get a minor cut or two a week, and i burn myself pretty often, especially when i used to weld alot.

I cut my slef often, but nothing big. Usually just a minor slice while cleaning my blades. Usually because I get distracted and look up at a bird or something. Most recent was on a Mora last week while slicing a potatoe..

Not so much anymore. I'm cut by thorn bushes far more frequently than by knives these days. Now, having said that I'm sure that I just set myself up for disaster.

The last time that I was injured at all by a knife was actually handle-related. I had a KABAR with a synthetic handle, and I ended up with blisters b/c I didn't want to slow down while making a throwing stick. My own fault, but the handle was uncomfortable enough for me to get rid of the knife, especially after discovering blades with nicer ergonomics.

Pretty rare for me to cut myself with a knife. It does happen, but only every few months. Never had anything that needed more than a bit of pressure or light bandage.

Funny thread to read...I haven't cut myself on a knife in about four years, and the last time was when I was sharpening a mora on a puck and wasn't paying attention. I had the tip of my finger sticking up a little bit above the stone and nicked it. I felt like such a noob! I laughed about it for quite a while.

The time before that would have been years earlier. In fact I remember it as well now that I think of it: I closed a linerlock folder one handed and nicked my index finger. Lot of blood!

Anyway that would have been about ten years ago.

I did stick an axe in my leg pretty good about three years ago, though. And I mangled one hand in a chop saw two and a half years ago.

Ackk... why'd you remind me. I had my Fiskars go through a log much easier than I expected one day a few years ago. The lower tip of the blade got me dead center on the top of the shin bone. The little knot just below the knee cap. I'm sure theres a medical name for it, I just don't know it.

It was a puncture wound that pretty much hit bone. Odd part was, I expected a blood bath. To my surprise it didn't bleed hardly at all. Hurt like a sumbit** but didn't bleed.

Cleaned it up, put on a couple butterfly's and went back to work. Probably would have taken two only stitches anyway.

If I'd have hit my knee cap I'm sure I'd have passed out from the pain alone :D.

Weekly, but rarely badly. I seem to always have a healing cut.

This isn't a bad thing. There are some iron-storage diseases (e.g. hemachromatosis) that can be treated with regular blood letting. I figure the occasional cut helps prevent this unwanted condition.

I try my best to avoid cutting myself,

…but some of my blades do get me from time to time.

I’m more likely to draw blood on the job site or in the shop.

I much prefer a knife wound then the damaged I do to my fingers with the belt grinder.

THANK YOU! Can't wait to use that the next time my wife gives me the "you cut yourself again" look :D

We were discussing this at the Michigan get together. I was telling kgd that I haven't cut myself in close to a year. I was breaking in the pivot on my Centofante III and clipped the inside of my pinky finger. :o Bled like a stuck pig but not bad enough to need stitches.

I guess I'm not doing enough cutting either.

Burns are another story.:p From melted paracord ends to minor kitchen accidents to messing around by the fire pit. I'm a 1st degree burn magnet. I can't even microwave a frozen burrito without burning the roof of my mouth.

I cut my finger about an hour after telling Rupestris that I hadn't cut myself in about two weeks.

I had a new SAK Cadet bite me on my thumb knuckle last week. No worse than a shaving cut. I had a Case Peanut cut me when snapping shut about six months ago. Little incidental cuts don't frighten me. It is the large 10's of stiches digit removal tendon damage type stuff that I get nervous about. That is why I am very careful when handling larger knives and axes and such. Just mind your Ps and Qs and you will be OK is my thinking. -DT
