So, how often do you cut yourself?

My 12" convexed Tram got me good on my left index finger. My first thought was... thank god there was a bone in there to stop the blade from taking the whole damn finger off!
BTW... a bit of crazy glue and it turned out fine.

If I'd have hit my knee cap I'm sure I'd have passed out from the pain alone :D.

Actually it wasn't that bad...when we yanked out out I held on to the cap and the chasm it left made me feel a little ill though...patched it with electrical tape in the short term while we drove around looking for a doctor to patch me up for cash. The emerg wanted to do x-rays and charge me a thousand bucks...I could feel the kneecap was still in one piece so I found an old doc who just scrubbed it out and sewed it up for a hundred bucks.

kdstrick, been there done that, glad to hear you are okay and can still type!

I "zing" myself every couple of weeks. Nothing more than a band-aid usually needed. The last scary one was a few months back, with a palm gouge that slipped and gouged my left thumb. Ooh, boy! The red red kroovy did flow most copiously. Pressure, elevation, ice, and eventually superglue ended the ordeal. I scared my girlfriend pretty good, and there's still a tiny numb spot on the tip of my thumb.

I was wearing a thumb protector too, just on the wrong thumb!

I really hate that point where you sit there and debate about stitches, and then two days later you are like "what the heck was I thinking".

it seems i always end up cutting my hands doing other things, than using knives... i haven't cut mysely for a long time...:o

With a kinfe while using it, I don't think I ever have cut myself to any serious degree. I have cut myself numerous times on machinery, rocks, splinters, protruding screws etc, you know, when you just put your hand somewhere you don't expect a sharp object to be? I'd say I do that about 4 or 5 times a month, almost always on the fingers.

I know exactly what you mean. Stitches always seem like an inconvenience at the time, but a few days later, you realize that duct tape and crazy glue are poor substitutes for a thorough sewing-up. I have a few scars that are larger and uglier than they ought to be because of this.

All the best,

too much. most of the time they're cuts that just bleed a little bit, then can be taken care of with a bandaid or some dirt. Sometimes they require NuSkin or Super Glue.
I damn near lopped the pad off my right middle finger with some obsidian. Shot a construction grade staple through my left middle finger. If you've ever had to pull out an impaled object that goes in one side and is sticking out the other...then you know how sick it makes you. I can only imagine what it'd feel like to get stabbed. I'd probably puke, then pass out.
I've cut my hands and fingers more times than I can count.
Have only had to have stitches once though (probably could have used them on the obsidian incident...but skated by it. The scar is visible and I like it right where it is, it reminds to not do stupid shit).
I burn myself pretty routinely, too. Burnt my finger, then turned right around and burnt my tongue (all to hell) on a mozarella cheese stick the other night. I love those things, but damn if I don't hate trying to eat 'em.

I still have all my limbs ....... *rub my bald a%* head, knock wood, salt over shoulder, rabbits foot.......yada yada....that should do it*

Skinning on trapline from age 7, 11 years in a slaughterhouse and 30 years of fishing. I have never cut myself to need stitches. Dad was a butcher and first aid instructor and drilled safety. Every blade in his house and mine are razors and you give all dangerous tools the respect they deserve. MUMBLEDIPEG ANYONE?

Now cooking/firepit burns are a different story, after summer and fall the hair on my forearms usually comes back in time for x-mas!
(I'm an impatient cook)

Oh hell yeah! If we're talking about cuts other than from knives, I ding myself a lot. My knuckles are always half apart from banging them on something...I am not especially graceful!

For whatever reason I never do it with knives but from my elbows down I look like I was attacked by a bunch of rabid weasels half the time.

Damn near everyday. My co-workers and buddies started calling me "Stitch" about a year ago. I don't get stitches that often, but they say the name still suits me because most of my cuts should have gotten stitches and I'm just stupid for using wacko glue to close 'em up.

Last cut was just yesterday evening. Cut my knuckle on the can opener of a SAK. Just before that I was warning my girlfriend to not cut me with her Breeden while I held a sandwich for her to cut. Go figure?!

The worst are the ones you don't even realize you have sustained until you feel something sticky on your hands and notice blood. "What the hell, when did I cut myself?!?!". Usually happens to me when working hard in the bush, bang the knuckles up on something and don't even notice.

happened to me today.
I bought a cheap belt sander recently due to my interest in knifemaking.
I was polishing/reprofiling a Becker Companion blade blank today.
Went to test cut/chop on some pine, managed to slice into the backs of three of my fingers in one fell swoop!
Don'T know how i did it but i took a dime sized chunk out of my middle finger (just behind the nail), a slightly smaller piece out of the finger next to it and cut off about 1/3 of my pinky fingernail.
Didn't hurt but then the blood started to flow and i realised i'd been bit.
Of course the dime sized (and shaped) hunk of skin on the blade should have been my first clue.
That Becker is now officially "SHARP" !
LOL.

Sometimes i think a knife is not yours until it bites its masters hand.

This is worst cut i've had in well over ten years. Mostly i just occasionally nick my self while whittling.

Recently, doing a rushed job on preparing a snack to take to work, slicing tomatoes ultra fine with an over wicked Opinel, took my eye off the ball for a moment to look at a very fit blonde neighbour walking past, blood! Small but deep cut on the index finger tip through part of the nail....swearing cos of the blood and trying to bind it all up and rush out of the house open the garage etc. STRESS!!

Must try this super glue trick with wounds,is it really OK or dangerous? Does it sting? Knowing my luck I'll glue me fingers together.....
