Here is a lesson to you - do not be tempted to do stupid things. I was using a cheap hatchet to split a log (to practice my figure four trap making ability) and I hit a knot - I stupidly, and knowing it was stupid, reached for a hammer to pound it through. It went through - but I felt something small hit my inner right thigh (not THAT high - so Little Elvis is okay). I saw a shard missing from the hatchet about the time I felt warm blood running down my thigh.

The wound is small but I am getting a prophylactic x-ray to see if the damned piece is still in there.

I knew better - don't be like me - follow the rules - never metal on metal like that!

I got a DNR bracelet to wear - and I am currently asking for the paddles.

Dude - they left a vial of Lidocane out from the last person - how much will you give me to drink it?

I should be out of here in minutes with my current behavior.

Shit happens. Glad your gonna be ok. Be thankful it hit ya in the leg and not the eye.

Talfuchre.... let us contemplate the ill-wisdom of your act leading up to the hospital visit. Naw....

Is Nurse Alma working this afternoon? She's such a babe. With any luck, she'll give you the once over, just to make sure there are no shards of metal bothering lil' Elvis.

Let us pray.......

ON EDIT: Isn;t technology great? Talfuchre, your minor mishap aside, imagine us on our deathbed, having bled out almost completely from an axe wound, never mind dying breaths, we can type and send well wishes to BladeForums! If it weren;t so incredible, it would be appalling. Send pictures of Alma!

Well, lesson learned....even though I think you knew better in the first place. lol I'll vouch for being....carless with my GB hachet, bounced off and grazed my shin really good once. Should have went to get stitches but I taped it up and luckily it healed nice. ALWAYS LISTEN TO THAT LITTLE VOICE IN YOU HEAD!! lol Hope all turns out ok.

I requested a cavity search.

I had to dig a chunk of steel out of my shin from a metal splitting wedge. It had become mushroomed and I hit it at an angle. Off flew a chunk of steel that buried itself in my shin. It was so cold out I hardly felt it until I warmed up.

Lesson; always keep metal wedges ground down clean if they begin to mushroom.

Well - I am back from X-Ray - and sure enough I have metal. It looks damned deep too - about 1/8th inch by my estimation - so I am sure they will widen the hole - dig it out - and sew me up.

Damn it.

Ok. Cogitate on this. I am serious..... think about it.

Do you have a blade with you? Can you call home, to your wife, a friend, a relative, that could bring one of your favorite blades? Have the doctor sterilize it and use it to remove the shrapnel. Just a thought.....for ponder....

Ouch! Sorry to hear about that Talfuchre. Sounds like a bit of a fluke. You must have really hit that hatchet hard to send that piece and have it penetrate into you like that. I hope the surgery goes well!

Well - I will be out of here in a minute - the angle is such that it is deep in the muscle and is too deep for the emergency room - I will need to go to a plastic surgeon and take anti-biotics. I was simply stunned to see how deep it went in my leg. I would say it is 2 inches beneath the skin and traveled an inch into the muscle.

It must have been like a bullet.

What a pain the ass.

Sorry to hear about your mishap. At least there was no arterial spray!

Anyway, as much as I empathize with you, I can help but thinking about this:

As TWINS!

Hope you heal quick though! Thanks for the reminder.

I bounced a sledge off an embedded splitting wedge once and the sledge found my left shin... Got luck that it was a grazing shot.

Edit to add - you posted your last update as I was posting. Sorry to hear this will actually be a real inconvenient issue. Good luck man.
