So I am currently in the Emergency Room

I hit part of an old barb wire fence with my Gravely one time. It drove a 1" section of it (not the barb thankfully) just under the skin of my leg. I could see it there. I took some needle nose pliars and yanked it out. Hurt and bled a lot but didn't get infected. Used peroxide on it.

Well, that's too bad it's so deep. I was really enjoying this "chat" with a bloke lounging around in the hospital being treated by my favorite nurse...Alma.

BUT! There's a bright side to this picture!!! Going home will give you a chance to pick a nice blade.... small... pointy....razor sharp.... with scales that can withstand whatever boiling or sterilizing that doctors do in this age..... Get one. They'll do it. Find a surgeon that's into knives (that would be....all of them, me thinks).

Strop it well!

I requested a cavity search.

For you or her ?:D

Yeowch! I'm not a fan of other folks getting hurt. Makes me light-headed. Funny thing is, when I do something stupid to myself (which has happened a goodly number of times), it's no big deal. Anyway, I hope you're on the mend soon and that they let you keep the chunk of steel. Might be cool to fashion it into a firesteel striker or a tiny blade to fit into an altoids tin. If it could work its way that deep into your flesh, it must be worth using again.

I am home - I have to see a surgeon soon. What a pain in the booty.

Could have been worse - could have nicked my femoral artery. :O

Ouch!
At least you didn't lose any vital appendages!
Buddy of mine lobbed off one of his thumbs with an axe once!

Dude i hope you heal up quick....and that it doesn't cost you too much.

Wow - I hope you get better quickly.

Thanks for not sharing pics :)

Pictures? Make sure you save the chunk of metal so we can see it! If it's big enough, maybe you could make something out of it?

That's pretty stupid alright :D It could have been anyone of us :p
But a small price to pay for a reason to start a good tread on bladeforums. ;)
Maybe you can ask the doc for some of the "Oh happy days" pain killers. :)

A couple of months ago there was a guy here in Maine who was working alone splitting wood with a wedge and maul. He struck the wedge and a piece flew off, striking him in the leg and cutting his femoral artery. He attempted to drive out of his wood lot for help and got his truck stuck, ultimately losing conciousness and dying. As if that weren't bad enough, the truck caught fire from the stuck wheel continuing to spin after he passed out. Freak accident, you just never know. Glad things worked out for you Talfuchre.

Ah tf, what to say......... :D

Be really glad it happened where it did and not 50 miles out in the boonies. Hey, looking at the silver lining, maybe now you'll never do it out in the boonies. :D

Anyway, glad to hear it's not more serious. I was afraid you were going to say junior tagged you with the sling. :D

Doc

I bet you don't do that again. What's the old adage, If your gonna be dumb your gotta be tuff.

Seriously though, I hope you recover quickly and get up and about soon.

But if you get some wierd disease I hope your doc looks like this.

Good luck with the surgery. I hope you heal up up quickly and thoroughly. And I'm glad the experience wasn't worse.

How seriously do you need to get dinged for them to call Alma in?
