So I am currently in the Emergency Room

If they have to remove the chip, find out what kind of steel the scalpel is made out of! [Credit to the "You know you're..." thread for that one.]

Feel better!

Well - I will be out of here in a minute - the angle is such that it is deep in the muscle and is too deep for the emergency room - I will need to go to a plastic surgeon and take anti-biotics.
Just cut it out with your pocket knife and suture it yourself. Those doctors don't know shit... all their concern about infections and such. Just irrigate it with some stream water. Rambo and other real survivalists would do it themselves!

That's a joke, folks,

Two inches may seem like a bunch WHEN ITS YOUR LEG (and if it were my leg) but it's still pretty superficial. Best wishes to you, brother.

I'm really surprised they didn't take it out in the ER. Perhaps they think you have particularly sexy legs and don't want you to have a big scar. :)

Nemoaz, it was a very good joke too, until you announced it. ((( :D )))

Joking and sarcasm goes best unannounced, I think anyway.

glad your ok and getting checked out!

i hope you had eyeglasses on (safety glasses), a shard of metal in the leg is bad, but not as bad as in the eye.

work safe !

The funny thing about this whole episode is that I JUST saw an Mythbusters episode that talked about NOT hitting hammers together for this very reason.

But the were talking about older hammers. The problem is that I was using a CHEAP handaxe that was likely over hardened.

They did not remove it in the emergency room because they could not find it. It is a TINY hole and the sliver is no where NEAR the entry wound.

I saw that just saw that episode of Mythbusters too - I'm assuming it was the re-do episode where they admitted they were wrong when they said there was no way Carlos Hathcock could've shot a sniper through the scope.

Anyway, glad you'll be okay. Are you sure your name's not Plaxico Buress?

so are you going to wear safty glasses next time? if that metal have hit your eye not even the docors of to day could fix it...just something to mull over
I was an iron worker for a long time. shards of metal flying off mushroomed pins etc are very common... as dumb as they look safety glasses are very important anytime you are striking metal on metal
I'll just get off my soap box now and crawl back into my hole:)

Yeah - I will simply not be doing that again - If I use metal on metal - I will be doing softer metal on harder metal - or vice versa.

TF

What happened to Plaxico Buress?

TF

shot himself in the leg in a nightclub in manhattan where carrying a pistol is a big no-no

i don't think he should go to jail for carrying a gun - maybe for plain stupidity and lack of gun safety, but not for exercising his 2nd amendment right ;)

hope you get better - and hey, with nurses like those i might start hitting hatchets with hammers

THE AFTERMATH:

They are not going fishing to go get it. I told them that I brough my own SAK and a small vile of whiskey and a stick that whittled to bite down on and we should just get it over with.

No Go.

Here are the X-Ray pics.

The piece is .191 Inches by .114 inches

So - thus ends the saga.

Now - back to making that trap!

Twenty years from now you can tell everyone it is a fragmentation while serving with Grylli Vanilli in the almost weekend warrior SAS :) Heck with evidence of a real wound you are FAR MORE QUALIFIED than him.

That can be any kind of wound you want it to me.

I'll bet one of those big ACME magnets the Roadrunner used would also work. No need to pay for an MRI.
