so I chipped my nmfbm...

I plan to thin out the edge just a little, I'm not expecting a paper slicing knife, more of a competent chopper.

Understand completely, a balance must be struck according to the expected use of the knife. Just trying to say that geometry cuts (chopping is a demonstration of cutting ability), with the edge geometry being especially crucial.

Also, from what I could tell from the pic it looks more like the edge was deformed or dented… not really chipping where the steel has been lost. It looks like it did just what it's supposed to, I wouldn't worry about it too much.

I want to mimic my kukri grind, the kukri is half the weight but bites just as deep, i figure it's the grind/geometry.

I have seen those buckets have steel rings under the lip you didn't cut through. That could have caused the damage, I don't know that all buckets have them but most things I buy from the home depot that come in 5 gallons have them. Food for thought

It's destroyed beyond repair you should send it to me for proper disposal...;)

Thinning the edge will certainly help...

I looked at the bucket, there's no metal that I struck, I'm thinking the chipping occurred when I hit the thick part of the bucket, where it stopped, on the right side of the bucket you can see where the blade stops.

I've chopped up frying pans.....steel tractor covers.....mufflers and bulldozers guards with my ASH and have had no chips or rolls. I've chopped concrete blocks with my ASH and have had the same dents you see in yours.....no big deal. Sands right out and the steel is more durable after a few sharpening.

Btw..........I gave my 1000th post to your thread.....CONGRADULATIONS!!!!!

You have won the rights to read this post as many times as you would like.

I am honored. Maybe I'll bash some things tonight in celebration hehe

Is the ash old enough to be in the older infi composition? (with nitrogen)
I found in a thread here that the composition of infi changed (no nitrogen anymore), don't know what to think about it?

There's no difference as far as "users" can tell. Splitting hairs.

where was that ?

Nitrogen was not the element that changed in the threads I saw... seems like I remember it being cobalt or the like. The gist was that whatever element it was it was one that doesn't show up in most common testing to begin with.

This is my TGLB. Have cut through just about everything. ..no chipping. ...just rolling and mis-alignment.

So that's just waviness in the edge huh? Take a butchers steel to that and show us what it looks like, yes? Or. I could grind your bones to make my bread. That or this goat I found this morning.

I think I'll just beat the heck out my pistol tonight. For no good reason, just to do it.
I do not get this mentality. But hey, it's your knife.

Just don't end up stuck in the neck like that bouncer did.

Looky but no touchy

Blasphemy --- you're in the Busse sub-forum and you're criticized hard use of a knife made by a knife company that actively encourages it and is willing to stand by their warranty in the process??? Hand me your HoG card -- I think a time out is in order ;)

lol! Rob- If I HAD to it, ok. But my knives are tools and I was taught to respect my tools.
You are correct tho, INFI can take anything.
OINK!! :D
