So, I finally got around to polishing this shiv

That's a beautiful shiv, you should be proud and maybe finish it a bit sooner.. Would love to see it!

............................Truth be told, it is probably above my skill level, but so far it is has turned out pretty much flawless..........................................................

There you go again, being all humble about your MAD machining skills  :D

Very nice work  fwiw, not that my opinion matters ...... ;) , think mammoth ivory bark, crackle :)

Heh heh. The esteemed Mr. DeShivs has spoken. It is officially a "shiv". Heh.

Did you use steel from a bar of your cell, ground on the concrete floor, I presume? :D:D:D
I don't wanna know about the heat treating... I bet it involves beans.. :p

Great dagg... shiv, anyway. Love it. I'm anxious to see it finished!
I think the holes in the grip add something to the whole thing... perhaps you could give it a G10 grip which repeats the holes, or perhaps just dimpled...

Sweeeet!! Was'nt there a thread saying how making knives on a mill does'nt count  The year was worth the wait

Wow, this thread got to two pages. I should post more often...

Great job Nathan. You should be proud. I can't wait to see it finished.

Thanks Bobby, I'll probably lug it down to Atlanta this year. But if I do, I'm not totally sure I'd be comfortable with you throwing it...

Oh, I never said it was above my machining skills. :p Just a little above my pay grade in the finishing department. I can not thank you enough for your input and help with the stones. I wish you could see the results in person, it looks like jewelry. Thank you.

That looks awesome Nathan!

Thanks Tai. This is that knife I was telling you about. I guess I may as well put it back up on the shelf if we're gonna start a run of three pound hammers. lord...

Alarion, man I haven't seen you in ages. It is good to hear from you. Yes, it is a piece of rebar I chipped out of the wall and hammered into shape with my bunkmate's skull.

Man, the next person to dis my knife milling is gonna get shanked... :D

Great looking knife man. Lol a friend an I had a conversation on this once and in my mind a shiv is an object that is not mean to be a knife which has been made to do so. You then commit a shanking with a shiv. You my friend have an amazing looking knife that would then be used in a stabbing... We have to keep our terms in line lol.

Now that is a beauty! Forget the scales I think she looks sexy as heck just the way she is...retro:thumbup:

That is a REALLY nice sticker Nathan! Many of the pieces I see here that are machined look blocky, and poorly thought out, and have no flow. Yours exhibits NONE of these usual characteristics.... Great design, REALLY REALY REALLY great flow, and super execution!
I'd suggest trying your hand on some perfectly fit $3.00 micarta scales for this piece before you move on to the tooth. I agree with the tooth though! Why skimp on materials @ this point?

Nathan
Did you get a chance to finish this beauty?
If yes I am sorry I missed it.

Nah. I'm afraid I wasn't kidding when I said it would probably be 2011 when I finish it. I have a job that is keeping me pretty busy until probably the middle of February. *sigh*

Thanks,
Nathan

niIIiiiiice work

Greg

I like that a bunch

I'm sure we would all like to see some WIP pics of how you fixture and fit those scales

Hello guys,
I come from the forum next door (you know, "custom & handmade..."). We discovered the following knife a few days ago. I thought it had to be posted here...

Yeah, posted here......... and quite a few other places IMHO ;)

FWIW, I was fortunate enough to not only see this beautiful piece of work but to actually hold it at this years BLADE Show.

Absolutely fantastic, flawless piece of steel !

Of course Coop did an excellent job capturing the knife in picture, but to truly appreciate this knife, it has to be held.

Excellent work Nathan !! Excellent !!

Just out of curiosity, is there another thread dedicated to this Dagger Patrick, and if so, where ??
