So there's a ton of big ZTs out (or on their way)... when do we get little ones?

I'd rather have a ZT. Don't you think that's a niche ZT could compete in?

Maybe, but I think the Mini Grip, Leek, and Delica got the under 3" blade market covered. Usually when people want something nicer, they go for a Sebenza, or Bradley Alias.

3" XM-18s seem to be pretty popular, so a more affordable ZT version (like a 3" 0550) might do pretty well.

But I am not rich.:D True, I did just spend enough on three ZTs to buy a small Seb.....but I have three outstanding knives (well two ,the 0350 is my son's)

And the Delica,Leek, and Mini Grip are not Ti frame locks.

Don't need to be rich to own any of the knives mentioned above

True....(that wasn't meant to be that serious)...but if ZT could come up with a 3" Ti frame lock in the 250-300 range (under a Seb and Hinderer). Don't you think that would fill a market niche?

But it's more expensive than the Alias. And then that's where it would lose it's ability to compete. Especially since that would make their most expensive production model, their smallest.

The Alias isn't in the same league as a Small Seb or Hinderer. Blade thickness is less than a Seb (barely) and way less than a Hinderer.

I'm thinking if they shrunk a 0550 , like they did with the 0560, I'd be a very happy man.

Heck if they took off a 1/4" of blade off the 0566 and had a Ti lock side I would have already pre-ordered one.

I didn't say it was in the same league, I just said it would be cheaper than your desired price range for the smaller ZT. If they shrunk the 0550, then the price would (hopefully) be lower than $250-300 Hopefully under $150.

That wasn't really a desired range. Cheaper is always better.:D Just being MSRP realistic for a new model.;)

I have one of the few ZT 0780 models they made (I've heard around only 230), and they're quite small and pocket friendly. Nice litte flipper action to. So you could go hunting for one of those. I've heard they had some blade play problems but mine is great, very solid.

I had one as well, but it's well longer than 3" blade.

I guess I just don't see why anyone would be opposed to ZT making a new type of knife in a market with tons of buyers. It doesn't take away from what they're already making and it's another cool knife with a ZT logo. Chris Reeve makes a Large Sebanza, and for that matter Rick Hinderer makes several knives similar to ZT's Hinderer-designed knives - just because there's some folders in a certain market already doesn't mean there's no more room for knives in that range.

Why so much resistance?

??? I haven't seen any "big" ZT knives, only a bunch of "small" 4" folders and a few "medium" sized fixed blades.

They did have one, but dropped it shortly after production. :thumbdn:

This is good news however, ZT at least tried to make a smaller one and hopefully down the road will try again!

I think that the concept of "small" is a little scued here. 4" is not small, it would be more medium than anything. there are a lot of local regulations in some states that barely allow you to carry a 3.5" folder.

I'm speaking from the point of view of a guy who works in an office all day. Having a 4", or even a 3.25" folder in my pocket all day just doesn't make sense. Yeah, when I go home I have a 3.25" knife I carry around but in my experience I have never needed bigger than that. Unless I'm hunting or camping, and then I have my fixed blades for those situations. But, everyone has their preference and I'm not one to give someone crap about preference.

I personally would love to see a ZT version of a Kershaw Cryo, made like the 0550 but the size of a Cryo.

In some places even shorter than 3.25" blades. Like 3" in Los Angeles and 2.5" in Boston.

The ZT 0780 is 3.5", the ZT 0750 is 3.2" and the upcoming ZT 0566 is 3.25".

I think ZT just has not found a market for small 3" knives. It's not their gig.

Having said that I think the 0566 will be quite successful.

I prefer larger knives, ZT0350 is my fav. Before that is was a 4" CRKT M16. Someone gave me a chive once and the thing is so small it's pretty much useless to me because I can't get a decent grip on it. That said I really like the spyderco ambitious. I don't carry it, but I like it. Something like that in a ZT would interest me. Though due to the expense and not being legally bound to smaller blades I probably wouldn't get one right away. I'd wait for a blem on kershawguy.com or something as it would probably end up collecting dust.

Yeah. I live in the general LA social region. I can't legally carry a huge ass knife.
