So this happened today. . .

wow thats bad. good the makers gonna replace it.

that clip designs gonna continue to fail though. too many weak points in it. maker really ought to redesign and replace all the knives he made with it, that break.

It's wild how thin those clips are at multiple locations along their length. Great that Curtiss will fix it, but maybe it warrants a redesign?

My experience with McNees went exactly this way. I have a first run frag Dixon, and the pocket clip on these is very small and thin. I snapped the clip on mine, and they shipped another one out and I received it in two days(!!), and when I reached back out, I was told that they were redesigning the clip and that this wouldn't happen on future models. If my clip snaps again, I'll reach out and will expect to get one of those. That said, mine has been in the pocket every day for the past couple months and I've had no further issues, so it might not happen!

Yeah, It probably wouldn’t hurt to ask him about that design and if there’s anything he can do to beef it up a bit. . .

I wonder how many he’s gotten back for this. You’d think after a while he would redesign it if it is an inherently bad design. If nothing else, for his own benefit.

Not a judgement, just an observational comment:

I never had a knife with a pocket clip from the time I was a Boy Scout in the 1960s through maybe 2916. All my pocket knives were just knives in my pocket. Anything larger was not a pocket knife. I still can't quite get a clipped knife to work for me conveniently or expeditiously.

The whole tip-up vs tip-down thing is not clear to me either.

Pretty much why I had my Buck 110 in a belt pouch . . . .the same for my EDC Leatherman Wave Plus today.

Almost 1000 years…nice!

I'm right with you Vorp but with watches.

Why would anyone need a watch on their wrist when they can have it in their pocket?

And I can't understand having a cover on my pocket watch; hell we never had covers and flipping that thing open is a pain.

Always carried my watch on a fob in the vest pocket

How about a small spot weld where it broke?
Why would I do that when I just get it replaced?

you had a vest!? And pockets?!? Who needs pockets? When I was your age we carried our stuff around in sacks! Now get off my lawn. . .

I called his shop and he answered the phone personally - which just on it’s own is rare indeed nowadays. Spoke with him a few minutes. Sounded like a super nice guy and old school, hard working, American craftsman who stands behind his product. I like that. Will it break again? I don’t know, but I bet he’ll stand behind it if it does. Good enough for me. YMMV. . .

I changed careers when the oil business tanked and worked in a hospital doing diagnostic imaging with sophisticated, computer driven equipment. Every room had a clock and every computer screen did too. Gave up wrist watches.

Later, I inherited two pocket watches (Omega and IWC), so I went to a watch show and immediately fell in love with pocket watches.. Somehow, I do like the hunter cased watches, but don't have one.

And now, back to knives please.

Looks like a Hinderer clip would fit.
I had to go check it out after you got my gears turning! Hinderer clips fit perfectly on Mcnees Mac’s but the hole pattern is further apart on the Curtiss. Also the Hinderer clips won’t fit the new Dixons either unless you drill the clip hole out a bit as they are closer together as well. IMG_4891.jpeg
