So this happened today. . .

I had to go check it out after you got my gears turning! Hinderer clips fit perfectly on Mcnees Mac’s but the hole pattern is further apart on the Curtiss. Also the Hinderer clips won’t fit the new Dixons either unless you drill the clip hole out a bit as they are closer together as well. View attachment 3091012

That clip fits the Mac so well, like it was meant to be.

I guess I’m about to experience for myself that storied Curtiss warranty service I’ve heard so much about. . . 😞

Man I'm sorry to see you're having this trouble. I never noticed any lock stick on it. Also never had the screws out. If they don't make it right, I'll be happy to pay for whatever needs to happen to get you whole Amigo.

What's not worth it is having to send the whole knife away for a new clip.
If they would send out spares so when it broke you could immediately put a new one, ok. Waiting for clips or sending the whole knife, nope.
I chose to send it in because I wanted the spa treatment. I could just as easily have requested a new clip be sent to me, as Berg Blades recently did for my Alpha. Not sure why but it sounds like you’re pretty soured on this brand. I get you don’t like the clip design but it sounds like more than that?

Edited to add I just reread what shinyedges shinyedges is saying. You mean you’d want an extra clip on hand in case the other breaks. I think something like goes back to what I was saying earlier. We have two examples in this thread of that clip breaking. I wonder how many there actually are percentage wise? You’d think of it was that big a problem he would redesign it just to save himself the aggravation.

I don't know how it sounds like more than that 😅 never had anything from them, as a cnc programmer and machinist who has made a boat load of things, some of which that has gone to space, I don't prefer to sacrifice durability for looks, but that's highly subjective and am not knocking anyone for their preferences.

If they'll send you a clip without having to send in anything, like benchmade, that's the bees knees.

Just saw your edit, yea the design looks weak inherently from my experience with metal and manufacturing, I'd want to keep a spare if I carried it so I could swap when it breaks. I'm not taking a dig at you or the company, just making an observation that's in my opinion.

Fair enough. I wasn’t accusing you of anything more than that or sinister. It just sounded to me like maybe you’d had some sort of bad experience with them or something. I totally agree with you. I think the clips look bad ass but at the cost of milling away too much in critical areas. I’d rather they were more functional.

All good man, I just saw your edit and then added an edit too.

Clip does look bad ass, as with most things it's a compromise, but if it ticks your feel good box, I'm an enabler and say rock on bro. Enjoying what we carry is also important and it's a hobby, lifes to short to carry an ugly knife lol

Your last line was actually in my signature box for a while. 😁

I'm right with you Vorp but with watches.

Why would anyone need a watch on their wrist when they can have it in their pocket?

And I can't understand having a cover on my pocket watch; hell we never had covers and flipping that thing open is a pain.

Always carried my watch on a fob in the vest pocket

Now you're rubbing salt in the wound, if a pocket watch cover hinge can last over a hundred years, why can't a knife pocket clip? :P

Boker sold a series of Curtiss knives. I wonder if one of their stainless clips would fit?

I think I saw something about how Curtiss actually made the clips for the Böker collab, with the rest made in China. Not sure if he used a different material, but might have the same issue...

Brother, You’ll never get this one back! 🤣

But in all seriousness, that won’t be necessary and I know you’d bend over backwards to do the right thing. None of this is your fault. Sometimes things just break and need fixing. 🙏🏻👍🏻

I'll have to unbox one of mine and see how thin it is. Might be awhile 😬

Well, I can't be having bad knife karma floating around the universe, those knife gods a fickle bunch :). So please say the word if I need to refund, pay shipping to and from the maker or purchase and send the aftermarket pocket clip of your choice. I'd do any with a smile.

I mentioned in the for sale add that I felt that they had installed the wrong clip on it and that's why it "floated" up over the handle but didn't appear to be bent or damaged. It really looked like it got a standard shaped clip though it had the slim model handles. I only mention this in case you feel it may be worth mentioning to them in order to avoid a duplicate headache. Probably doesn't matter if the plan is to send the complete knife in.
